    ....TO BE CHRISTLIKE in Learning?

Sorry. Cannot attach this to Philosophy's thread in this forum and to Jimmy's post there.

    Jimmy:

Were two alike in one way, ie, being accused of sacrilege, does not prove those two much alike at all. Jesus got tired in His walks. So do I when I try to walk off the effects of diabetes. That doesn't mean that I am Christlike because we both got tired. The issue involved in comparing the claims of Christ to the implication you make about why ministers do not need a truly rigorous training when Jesus did not, and a minister claiming doctoral qualifications pivots on the verity of those claims.

Jesus in the Gospels claimed His education was directly from God. The Gospels say that claim about His education is true.

So, for you to say it is OK for ministers to claim a doctoral education even if it is not doctoral level work because Jesus has no real doctoral education is a false and misleading analogy.

Since Jesus , according to the Gospels, is the TRUTH (Jo 14:6) , those like Jesus in this one way are those who speak truth. For a minister to say he finished the rigors of a doctoral program when he rather bought the degree, or did little for it, or did something much unlike what normally is expected for a doctorate, is not being Christlike *in this one way* at all.

Jesus claimed divine knowledge of salvation , ethics, God , Man ,and the future. These are difficult concepts and when one claims a doctoral degree in them, as Jesus taught them, that one should have completed an extremely rigorous course of study.

Since God, IMO, is not directly teaching the minister, as He taught Jesus, it is incumbant on the minister to seek the best education available to him/her. Most here know that rigorous BAs and MAs are available in ministerial studies as are GAAP doctorates entirely through DL. The issue is not RA, the issue is the equivalency of that in expectations and learning.

The author of Hebrews says that Jesus , Himself, learned by suffering! His knowledge did not come easily! He paid dearly for it. Jesus urged His disciples to carry their crosses too. But many "doctors " of theology look rather for the lightest crosses.

Then , I assure you, to imply that such easy docs are OK because Jesus never went through a rigorous doc program is sacrilege because it impugns what Jesus is and did and denies what He expects of His disciples.

Finally, I also assure you that supposing that you are Christlike , because He also was accused , is a false analogy ; the difference is , He was wrongly accused.

Bill, my friend, you're studying away too hard. This was a humorous attempt (albeit perhaps a failed attempt).

No need to apologize. You have always been a gentleman who has substantiated your claims, beliefs, and allegations and not some cowardly blowhard who makes statments and cannot validate them.
