Anyone attending Fort Hays State University BGS or BS INT program? any comments on this University and their program, beside cost ? Do they offer two programs, BGS and BS INT ? or is it just BGS with concentration in INT ? How many total CLEP/DANTES exam can one transfer to their program ?

I really like Fort Hays' DL offerings....they are RA, a B&M school, and have very reasonable tuition. I'm especially impressed with the many available online concentrations in their Master of Liberal Studies program.

The only drawback I see is the rather goofy degree titles of B.G.S. and M.L.S. (which I'm sure many will confuse with Master of Library Science).

    To etech:

FHSU has general education requirements for the BS degrees listed on this page:

    http://www.fhsu.edu/future_students/transfer/guide.shtml

I have found the instructors to be overall responsive, some less than others , of course. It is important to remember with FHSU instructors, if you have a question, ask it! My past experience with Pikes Peak Community College and CCCOnline was that everything was very structured and laid out. FHSU course-work requires the usual self-discipline of DL in that you are given the requirements and it is up to you to meet them. Much reading and many videos (in the liberal arts at least). There is very little discussion through the online discussion boards, most instructors don't bother.

    To Bruce:

I agree, the names of the degrees leave much to be desired. I try console myself by thinking it's the content, not the name, but too many people look at the "cover" not the "book". Still, the price, the reputation....better than I could find in Georgia for a Bachelor's degree through distance learning.

Both of my parents have degrees from Fort Hays traditional prgrams and remain incredibly loyal to the school. They have always been very proud of the degrees.

Don't worry about the BGS degree title. I have 2 sisters and a brother who all have BGS degrees (from Wichita State). The degree has never hindered their opporutnites and all have very good jobs that pay well.

I think if degree title matters then I like BS Information Networking/Telecom as compared to BGS. atleast this way you get a BS

I had dealings with Fort Hayes for several years as a military education counselor. I also assisted a number of Navy members in enrollment. Several were Fire Controlmen (or FCs, for short). They have a very technical training path in the Navy and they found the information technology and networking classes both interesting and challenging.

As a side note, I believe their upper limit of transferrability--like Governor's State University (Board of Governor's degree program) in Illinois--is 80 credits. The residential requirement is the remaining 44 (?). They accept all of the Navy and Marine Credit on the SMART transcript, for example. Also, they have articulation agreements with a number of junior colleges. For example, Coastline Community College in Fountain Valley, California, has articulation agreements where military credit used for the associate degree transfers on to FHSU.

I am finishing my thesis right now in the Humanities External Degree (HUX) M.A. at California State U., Dominguez Hills, But
I am thinking about the M.L.S. in Instructional Technology (I think that's what they cause it, if memory serves) at FHSU. The people I've dealt with on the phone in admissions are very friendly and prompt. Just my two cents' worth.
