Are there any DL schools that offer a PhD in Humanities or Philosophy? I am quite sure that there are not any 100% DL schools but I cannot find any.

Can anyone help find a US school?

The first half of your question leaves me puzzled and the second half requires a looonnnggg answer. For the first half, a PhD is a course of study that is laser sharp - really quite focused. Humanities, as a field of study, is really quite broad. It includes everything except that "science stuff" ;) . To do a PhD in Humanities you'd have to focus in on a topic that would require specialization (unless, of course, you're one of those Union Institute interdisciplinary sort of people. What I'm trying to say here is that at the doctoral level your focus is so tight that you probably will have to pick a more specific topic at the outset and so may as well commit yourself to a more specific department at the beginning. For the second half, there are several PhD programs in Philosophy. They are all within the "research PhD" continuum that exists in the British, Australian and South African university system (although the more adventurous students will explore Indian schools as well.) If you need a specific reference, try UNISA as a starting point. If you require a US program I'm betting that Union will be your only choice.

Salve Regina U has a Ph.D. in Humanities, but it's not online. They have an online MA in humanities. Hopefully, one day they will make their Ph.D. available online as well.

    University of Florida

The University of Florida offers two PhD degrees close to this, one in Classical Civilization and one Latin and Roman Studies. There is a small residency requirement, which is described thusly:

"30 hours of doctoral work in residence. Residency requirements can be satisfied through intensive, on-campus two-week summer institutes. "

    Hope this is helpful.

I talked to the Professor in charge of Salve's Ph.D program last summer at the Department of Defense World-Wide conference and he indicated he was trying to get the university to move to at least partial on-line work.
