Has anyone taken any Certification tests from Brainbench? www.brainbench.com
I was able to pass 15 or so by "cramming" a few days in the subjects prior to taking the tests. They cannot be used for academic credit due to the fact they are not proctored. (Although Capella may give credit for some IT certifications) They can have value in showing a employer you have some knowlege in a certain subject area. There is a transcript given showing your score, strengths and weaknesses in the subject etc. A couple hundred are offered. I was able to pass subjects as Project Management , Change Management, Human Resource Principles, Medical Terminology etc. by self study prior to exams.

    TEKMAN Semper Fi!

I don't think any school awards credit for taking exams at BrainBench; however my prev employment gives some credit for promotion. (Although Capella may give credit for some IT certifications) The way they mention for IT certification; which are MCP, MCSE, MCSA, MCBDA, Novell, Cisco, CompTIA, and etc. Those IT certs are proctored exam through VUE's test centers. For more information vist http://www1.excelsior.edu . You can try NETg by Thomson; they do award college credit by ACE (American Council on Education).

    Good Luck.

I took a number of those, some - when the thing was called "Tekmetrics" and was free.
I don't know how useful they are; I suspect not very valuable at all. I did list some on resume, including my high rating on ColdFusion test, and I dont think it hurt (just don't overemphasize the matter), but didn't help much either(I have MCSD).
The tests' difficulty varies widely. Visual C++ is very difficult (and not particularly meaningful), ColdFusion - very easy. I used a couple of certificates (Sexual Harassment Avareness and Written Russian) for novelty purposes :D
I can speculate that the whole arrangement can be quite useful for self-study and self-control. It would be most unlikely anyone could use it for college credit in any recognised school.
