Is there any particularly relevent research in distance learning program suitability?

There is a great deal of published research on distance learning, but little if any that specifically addresses the suitability of distance learning for a particular student.

We all know how to decide if a program is for us, for example if I wanted to be a Psychologist ( I don't but as an example), I would choose:

    An RA school
A program approved by the APA
    A totally DL program
    The lowest priced program
    The quickest program

in that order. Of course it must be RA, and APA and I would like totally DL and almost free and only one year.

There seems to be no research done on how students choose a program that fits their needs. It seems we all know, or learn what we need to know through word of mouth, or right here.

Does anyone know of any published research. Dr Bear's books are a fantastic start, but is there more?

Or, how did you decide on your program. What led you to that program and dissuaded you from others?

    Hi Matthew

I think the reality is that there is no one way to choose a degree program DL or BM. It is a matter of doing all the research you are capable of, seeking the best advice, searching the furthest reaches of your psyche and.... then pulling a name out of a hat. Seriously, there are so many variables both in possible programs and personality of potential students that I would hazard every one does it slightly differently. After it is all over, it is possible to put every effort in and still find out you've enrolled in a program that won't work for you.

    Accreditation
    Price
    Residency
    Length of program

    In that order

Since there were several from there, for my MBA, I went with location nearest to me (I know, strange, but there were 2 schools in a dead heat).

For the DBA, timing was everything.

I guess I shoudl throw in response from school. I had several not ever get me information, or very late, so they were rules out, though , from what I have heard, good schools.

I chose my doctoral program based upon (in order):

    Accreditation
    Residency
    Flexibility
