I'm thinking of enrolling in the post graduate diploma in epidemiology: principals and practice along with the M.S. PH program at Walden I am already enrolled in. Does anyone have any information on the post graduate diploma from the University of London. Such as quality of instruction and anything else related.

    Thank you.

I'm in the M.Sc. program in Epidemiology: Principles and Practice at the University of London External Programme. This is my third year, and it has been great!

The instruction is handled by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The quality of the materials is excellent for self-study. You don't really have instruction, exactly, but there is a web board for interaction with tutors and with other students. There is also feedback on assignments. I would highly recommend the program to anyone interested in epidemiology.

What are your goals within public health? The Waldon degree would not leap to the top of my list, in terms of recognition and utility for most purposes. In addition to the University of London programs in epidemiology, infectious diseases, and health management, there are several distance MPH programs that I would consider a better option for most purposes within public health.

Hi Alex. I'm not sure if my email to you went through, so I'll just post here. I have decided to try the University of London out.

Can I ask you what the entrance requirements were like? How do you pay? Can I pay in U.S. Dollars, or do I have to have the money changed over?

When you send in reports, can you write them in United States English, or do you have to write in the United Kingdom format (color instead of colour)?

I did not graduate with honors; can I still get into the program (I graduated with a 3.19 GPA)?

I thank you for any help you can give me. If there is anything else that you think I may need or like to know I would be grateful if you included that also.

    Thank you

The basic entrance requirements, of course, are listed on the External Programme website. In terms of what background people actually have, I can say that many of my fellow students do have previous graduate degrees. I have a BA in math and a Ph.D. in biology. A large number seem to be physicians, and many are already employed in some field at least peripherally related to epidemiology. But there are also some who have only undergraduate degrees. I think they look at your entire application and consider both your educational background and professional experiences. I don't think a GPA of 3.19 would be disqualifying.

I've paid using my credit card. They charge in pounds, and it shows up on my bill in US dollars. The exchange rate is as good as what you could get anywhere. I have always, though, gotten a call from my credit card company, confirming that I really did want to send a large sum of money to England.

I write my assignments and exams in American English, and that hasn't been a problem. I figured it would be easier for them to read my American English than whatever I might produce in UK English! (There are little grammatical twists that go beyond the color/colour difference.)

Didn't get your e-mail; will try to e-mail you, so you will have my e-mail address if you have further questions.
