I'm new to this site and forum but I've gotten such great information right here in less than a week, I'm already on the way to finishing my BA after 25 years; and planning for my continuing advancement beyond that!

Now I need some advice for my niece who is struggling as a teacher's aide.

She already has about 60 semester hours of credit from part-time resident curriculem and needs some direction to fininsh her BS in elementary education. Can those of you who have DL esperience in the education field give me some leads that I can direct her to?

    Who has the best program(s)?

Her goal is certification in Louisiana.

Thank all of you in advance!!!!

She needs to see what is required for certification in Louisiana first, then find the program that fulfills the requirements. Most require supervised internships in the school system which might be able to be arranged even if she isn't attending a Louisiana teachers college, but this needs to be checked out first.

This absolutely key - I worked with a colleague a few years ago who had an education undergrad degree from Arizona, but moved to CA before getting her credential, and found that it was insufficient - you needed a degree in a field, and then additional education stuff. It was a huge disappointment for her - not sure what the regs are today, but if you start with the state in which you hope to teach and meet their requirements you can't go wrong.
