Does anyone have info on schools they have had experience with, in regards to a BA/BS degree in accounting? I have found school website info from several, but all is overwhelming. Thanks.
Hi Ayla - There's good news and there's bad news. The problem is that the good news and the bad news are the same. It's this; there are many options avalable for you. This is good because choices are always good. It's bad because if you're already overwhelmed then this won't seem to help. In any case, there are programs at the following schools: Caldwell College Capital University Central Queensland University Champlain College Charles Sturt University City University Edith Cowan University Empire State College Marywood University Monash University Old Dominion University Strayer University University of London University of Pretoria University of South Africa University of South Australia University of Southern Queensland Upper Iowa University Review as much as you can and come back with questions. People here will help to answer them. Jack
A few more offering accounting degrees. Southern New Hampshire University Western Governors University University of Maryland University College Excelsior College If your goal is to eventually become a CPA, you could also explore the option of taking cheap accounting courses through either LSU or Indiana University, fulfill the other specific courses your state requires through CLEP, Dantes or more cheap courses, and apply them to a general studies type degree. Then all you would need is to meet the 150 hour requirement. If you have a specific question, I am sure more people would love to jump in and help. Tony
Thanks for the lists. I worked for 20 yrs as an RN and needed a career change. I would like to find a school that will accept my recent community college credits. Three yrs ago I started in software engineering technology and DBA. Two yrs into the program I had to take acct'ing courses and found what I really wanted to do. I have spent the last yr working on a AA in acct'ing. (Then wanted to find a job while cont. education and eventually CPA.) Due to medical reasons in the fall, I was having difficulty physically getting to class. Cincinnati State offers a limited number of online courses, so hense the search for a 100% online degree program. Unfortuntely the first place I called was Kaplan. After many phone calls and emails to me, it came down to me telling them I wouldn't make a decision until I had documentation of what courses would transfer. I was told that after enrollment (& $95) then my college transcripts would be evaluated. So research, research, research I went, which led to being overwhelmed. Also led me to this site, thank goodness. Will any school do a transcript eval before you enroll? Any specifics on University of Maryland? Thanks, Nancy.
Ayla My Web site, Distance Learning Business Degrees, lists 17 degree programs in Accounting among the approximately 200 programs offered entirely via distance education by regionally accredited US-based schools. Links are provided to the schools, the distance learning Web pages, the programs, and even to tuition information. Just click on the link below my name. Unfortunately, few schools do a complete evaluation without payment of the enrollment fee. Perhaps this is understandable as there is a certain amount of work involved.
