Does it matter what your degree is called (BS, BA, BGS, etc.) if the course-work in your transcript fulfills qualifications and requirements that you need or want? Doesn't it always fall back on the transcript to verify what you have for, say, teaching highschool or entering a graduate program?

BA/BS are many times used interchangably. I recall that in Oregon if you had two years of a foreign language, you received a BA otherwise it was a BS. And others seem to follow the traditional - Arts and Letters a BA - Science a BS.

What is your career goal - teach high school, enter a graduate program etc ? If it is for teaching, check with your State Dept of Education or the State agency that licenses teachers. I wouldn't think that the degree title is important, just the content - as you pointed out. I would think the same is true for graduate programs, but there are members of this forum who can give you more info. Grad programs might be more picky.

I do have a bias and that is I do not like the BGS and BIS designations that some schools use to singleout their DL programs. They are not as well known by employers and you would would need to explain the focus (i.e. coursework) of your studies. BA/BS degrees with concentrations and majors are more mainstream.

if you ever get to that point (that is you get an interview)...

In my opinion degree title matters. Sometimes you would not even get an interview because someone asked for a particular degree and all you have is say BSGS (although the content may be same).
