A "Good" MBA vs DBA at UoP

I just finished my Master's degree in Aeronautical Science and am looking to get either a MBA or a Doctorate degree in business to eventually teach college level classes.

I am wondering if it makes more sense to get a "good" MBA from an AACSB school or to instead get the terminating degree out of the way with UoP's DBA program.

Obviously, if I get a MBA I will eventually have to go back and get a Phd/DBA anyway. However, my philosophy is that if I am teaching, I will likely be able to go to a brick-and-mortar Phd school.

    Thoughts?

PS Yes I have looked into Capella, Walden and many others.

It depends what do you want to do with the degree after you graduate. If you ultimate goal is teaching at the university level, I would say that although University of Phoenix is not the most accepted in academia, you can still teach with it if you have good experience and are a good teacher. If your goal is to work in industry, an MBA from a top school can give you a good chance of promotion or another job with a least a six figure salary. If you have a DBA from U o P, it wouldn't really change too much your chances of getting a better employment since industry doesn't really pay the doctorate in business and getting a business degree from a low tier university will not increase your chances of a better salary.

Many articles talk about the value of an MBA and the conclusion is that if the degree is not from a top tier school, it won't make too much of a difference salary wise.

Part of the answer probably depends on what you consider a "good" MBA to be. Are you talking a $100k+ program at Harvard or Columbia, or just someone on the top 50 list?

My two cents - Go for the AACSB MBA if your goal is to teach with the realization that you will probably need a doctorate later on. I think you should go to the best school possible. Not having an AACSB business degree can potentially limit teaching options.

What "good" schools are you considering?

There are so many AACSB DL programs now, that I think you should go that route. There are limited residency doctrate programs out there too, but you will need to get the MBA first, I think it will give you a foundation for the business side. Jumping right into the DBA is not the way I would go.

    You may have no choice...

While it is possible to enter some B&M DBA programs with a bachelor's degree, a good one would require you to have a background in Business Administration. However, entry to an MBA program is possible w/o an undergrad in business as long as you take the prerequisites. Also, if you get on at a CC for example with an MBA it would be possible to go for your PHD/DBA part time. It all depends on your background and goals here. You really didn't provide enough information.
