    Hi all, my first post!

I would very much appreciate some input. We live in Calgary Alberta and my wife is interested in becoming a Doctor of Natural Medicine through the program offered at Healthpro http://www.lifestyleandwellness.ca/healthpro_profile.html

Apparently they are affiliated with Weston Reserve University. I conducted a search on Egbert Phipps, the President of the University, and a link sent me to this forum. There was a thread in the off-topic section that concerned me during my research of the authenticity of the school. http://www.degreeinfo.com/static/forum_archive/8/8525/thread_8525_page_1.html

Any and all information, opinion, etc. that you could provide will be very helpfull. Also, if you think there's another way for me to test the authenticity of this program/school, please offer suggestions.

    Thanks for your time.

If I were you, I wouldn't waste my time and money on these two outfits (Weston and Lifestyle/Wellness).

Yes, there is a way to test the authenticity of the outfits. The criteria have been discussed here (a different thread).

Why do you think I should avoid this, Ike? What are you basing your opinion on?

It lacks any kind of legitimate accreditation. If you check with Canadian authorities, I will not be surprised to hear that the outfit is not an authentic educational entity. I am almost certain that it is bogus. The owner (Dr. Sheila) listed several bogus credentials. She received her bachelor's degree from Donsbach University and this outfit is phony. Also, none of her graduate degrees is legitimate.

Yikes! It sounds like you know your stuff. Forgive me if it seems like I'm sceptical of what you're presenting, it's just that my wife had her heart set on this program and I want to ensure it is legit or not legit. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but you're raising some pretty concerning points.

Do you have a suggestion as to what Canadian authority I should try to contact to obtain info on Healthpro's authority to give out degrees (which includes a PhD according to a conversation with Dr. Sheila about 10 minutes ago)?

Also, thank you so much for your time and help. You could end up saving us a lot of grief!

I would say call Ministry of Education or any other education department and ask them where you can validate this institution. I think there use to be a website that listed recognized institutions. Sorry I dont have a link.

From Ms. Sheila’s telephone area code (416), it seems that she is located in the Province of Ontario (specifically in Toronto area). According to Canadians who post here, each province is responsible for institutional recognition, registration, and licensing of private schools and colleges located within the province’s area of authority. Dennis and Roy (Canadians) who post here regularly will be of much help. To contact Ontario Department of Education, you may dial (416) 325-2929 or 1-800-387-5514 or visit this website

You may also open the following hyperlinks for lists of legitimate colleges in Ontario Province.

    1. Ontarion Public Universities

    2. Ontario Colleges of Art and Technology

    3. Association of Canadian Universities and Colleges

    4. Association of Canadian Community Colleges

    Other Links

The link for Ontario Career Colleges is here and here but private career colleges don't award doctorate degrees anyway.

    Thanks etech.

Some of Healthpro's stated affiliations include:

The Examining Board of Natural Medicine Practitioners
    • Homeopathic Medical Council of Canada
    • International Coalition of Natural Medicine Practitioners
    • Resource member: Human Resource and development
Canada (tuition fees are tax deductible)

I'm trying to find out info from these sources as well. Does anyone here know something about these?

I have no idea whether these examining bodies are legitimate entities or not. You have to verify their relevance and authenticity through various Canadian authorities responsible for professional and specialized/trade accreditations. I don’t think that any of them is legitimate and I wouldn't trust information coming directly from these examining boards.
