    Hello,

I am in the Air Force, been in a quite a while now (15 years) and presently have my CCAF (Community College of the Air Force) Associates Degree and several DANTES exams under my belt. Have to admit, I haven't accomplished much in the way of education due to my being a shiftworker throughout most of my career. My question for the board is, where can I go from here? I'd say I'm 5-6 years from retirement and I would like to pursue a Computer Information Systems degree or even a degree in BA. I recently completed my A+ certification and posess a half-way decent background in computers. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance!.

Troy State University has a BS in Computer Science with a minor in Military Science that might work for your CCAF degree. If you have 18 (I think) or more ACE recommended credits from military training you automatically satisfy the minor requirements. I had around 36 credits from my schooling and MOS that satisfied the minor and all of the elective portion. They are pretty cheap too ($140 per semester hour).

    Best Regards,

Have you checked out the official dantes webpage? It shows the Servicemember Opportunity Colleges with DL programs.

If you decided to go the BA/management route, try Embry-Riddle's Technical Management degree at your base. The condensed format of in-classroom classes combined with a good selection of online classes worked great for me with deployments and swing shifts. Also, I was able to transfer in my entire CCAF plus a little bit more.

In my office, I see a lot of people going through Bellevue and Touro (Touro's accreditation status is having some issues) as pure DL programs. My wife is doing UMUC as a mix of in-class and DL.

Pick a program and press on. With your CCAF being complete, you should be able transfer quite a bit into most programs. Good luck.

    m-golf,

in addition to your CCAF degree, ACE awards credit for your CDC and other courses.

    http://www.acenet.edu/clll/military/index.cfm

surf through there and take as many as you can that provide intermediate or upper division Bachelors credit. Your CCAF degree wil cover most lower division credits. Get your supervisor to ok courses that are outside of your AFSC. PM me if you need some additional insight on this process.

search this board for the "big 3" and you will find several universities that accept ACE credits in addition to your CCAF degree. Keep in mind that the CCAF degree is viewed as lower division only in most instances so you may also want to look at degree completion programs.

    also, check out www.bain4weeks.com

Good luck on your educational goals.

Check with your Education Services Center to see which universities have articulation agreements with CCAF for transfer purposes. If you're interested in DL schools, check the DANTES catalog there as well. Finally, consider schools that are known for liberal transfer credit policies, including Bellevue University, the Universitiy of Phoenix, and, of course the "big three," Excelsior College, Thomas Edison State College, and Charter Oak State College.

I almost forgot. CCAF is regionally accredited under SACS in case you need to discuss with other institutions.

    Look at Bellevue

    m-golf,

Take a look at Bellevue University. Bellevue has "articulation" agreements with several community colleges, and CCAF happens to be one of them. If you enter with your CCAF degree completed (or at least 60 hours), and take one of their accelerated programs, they give you full credit for your CCAF degree, and it satisfies their general education requirements. You basically start out as a junior. If you've also got CLEPS/DANTES under your belt then you can use those to satisfy the electives. Depending on the program, that would leave you with the accelerated major (12 to 14 months), which is 36 hours, plus their Signature Series, which is another 9 hours. On a down note, while they have CIS degrees, I don't believe they are offered in the accelerated format, so some of the above options might not apply to that degree program. Regardless, good luck in whatever you choose.
