U.S. ACCREDITORS RELEASE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ONLINE EDUCATION

Eight U.S. regional accrediting bodies in partnership with the Western
    Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications
<http://www.wiche.edu/telecom/> have released a set of detailed
recommendations for building and evaluating online education
programmes. Representatives from the eight bodies formed the Council
of Regional Accrediting Commission to carefully describe the steps
involved in setting up and running an online education initiative. The
report, Best Practices for Electronically Offered Degree and
Certificate Programs, covers five areas of relevant activity:
institutional context and commitment, curriculum and instruction,
faculty support, student support, and evaluation and assessment. The
recommendations are intended to "assist institutions in planning
distance education activities and to provide a self-assessment
    framework for those already involved."

For more information, see the recommendations and background documents
    at <http://www.wiche.edu/telecom/Article1.htm>.

Eight? I thought there were only six.

I'm betting it was a typo, and they counted the six regionals, plus DETC and ACICS.
