Communication log for CCHS

  1. I have already posted about lack of communication from CCHS and my frustration of not being able to schedule my final exam even though all my work is submitted.

Everything that I send from now on will go via certified mail. I have already been keeping a communication log documenting my attempts to reach them without success.

Yesterday I tried for several hours to contact them, but I was either put on hold for more than an hour without anyone answering or received a message stating they were all at a meeting. Today I did manage to reach someone from the school who denied that they were all at a meeting yesterday.

Since I have put time into the coursework, I would prefer to take my exam and receive a grade. At this point, I feel that I will probably be forced to take them to small claims court, which would possibly get my tuition and book fee refunded but not compensate me for time lost completing coursework.

This forum was complementary towards CCHS, which is why I enrolled, but I strongly caution anyone considering enrollment there.

On the tests and projects that they have not lost, I have a solid A, so the problem is not with my academic ability. I'm very upset that I have not only lost time and money, but did not meet the deadline for a salary increase. I can only sue for $5000 in California Small Claims Court, so there's no way to regain the lost wage.

Hi! This is my first time posting on this forum. I was enrolled in 1997 at cchs. At that time the school was very professional and provided a quality education. When I recently decided that I wanted to complete my Masters in Public health, I did not think twice about re-enrolling at CCHS. I started my community health class this past October. I did just fine on my own until the beginning of December when I needed to contact an instructor. I was given the name and email address of my instructor at that time. I emailed her and left her several voice mails without any response. Just prior to Christmas holoday, I received a letter from CCHS stating that I needed to call an enrollment advisor before 12/31/03 to be locked into the current tuition rate. I attempted to call them for 2 weeks straight! I was left on hold for hours at a time. I really could not believe it. I finally reached an enrollment advisor who told me that I would have to enroll in the entire program immediately and send the school a $250 loan application fee. I then would have to pay all this interest which will double the cost of my degree. They faxed me the new enrollment form. Since then, I have been unable to reach them by phone. I was just told this week that the instructor who I have been trying to reach is no longer working at the college. She has not been there in a few months. But I was told to email her and leave her voice mails. I emailed Vonna who is supposedly now the only instructor for the masters program. I also left her a voice mail two weeks ago. I have gotten no response. I called today and spoke to a Mario in student services. I asked him wht would he advise students to do about this lack of response and poor customer service at CCHS. His response was "I have no idea ma'am were just swamped." Yes, the school was closed at least twice in the past month due to a "staff meeting" according to the message on the machine when I called. I do understand why this forum was complementary of CCHS in the past though. They did have a very good reputation in the past. But their service at present is unacceptable. They should actually close down and perhaps restructure and get their act together. I have also sent faxes without any response. All of this has been very disturbing. I had been in the process of completing my first project. But I think that I will just drop the course. I did notify DETC about these issues. I am now looking into other programs. I can really sympathize with anyone who is enrolled California College at this time.

  3. What was the response from DETC

Did you receive any communication from DETC? I made a complaint via the email complaint form but wonder if it will even be read.

My employer was considering purchasing the Respiratory Therapy program from CCHS because there is a severe shortage of qualified therapists and we felt that we could train some of our nurse's aides, lab techs and clerks to ease the shortage. I definately will let my employer know about my experience with CCHS and advise against buying their program. This would account for about 50 programs in the S. California area, with the potential to grow to include other regions.

Hi sympatheticear! I have not gotten a response from the DETC as of yet. I will give it a little more time. I emailed my complaint and then followed it up with a phone call. Of course I had to leave a message on a voice mail. This was about 10 days ago. I will, as John Bear suggested send them a formal written complaint. I will be very specific in my letter. I have also had my BSN transcripts lost by the staff at CCHS. When I first started my Community Health course, I had even convinced some other nurses to call the school and apply. Sadly, they were never able to reach anyone by phone. They were just left on hold for hours. But now I realize that they were pretty lucky. I feel that I have wasted a great deal of my time and money. I never did commit to their new enrollment criteria which requires you to take a loan out for the entire program. My deadline ( which they said was an extension) was 1/31/04. They said I needed to fax them a credit card payment by that date. Since they will want my money, maybe I will get a phone call from them now. I have no intention of continuing my graduate studies at their school.

  5. CCHS also lost my transcripts

I should have been tipped off in the beginning when they said they had some of my transcripts but were missing my BA, even though I sent them out in one envelope.

Again I sent my lost project via certified mail. I am keeping a paper trail because I plan to take them to small claims court and report them to postal authorities for mail fraud.

I made copies of this lost project to send to DETC along with a letter.

Excelsior has a BRN program that my friend enrolled in. CSUDH will take Excelsior's units for the Nurse Practitioner program.

I'm also enrolled in another class but I'm not sure if I should invest any time in it. I have made 3 payments (out of 5) so I wonder if CCHS will give me a negative credit report if I don't make the other 2 payments. I don't see why I should pay for a service not rendered.

Wasn't going to post anything until I completed my M.S. at CCHS but need to address this. CCHS has been purchased by Stevens-Henager College. The transition period has been tumultuous. What you need to do is call the 800 number, press option 3 and ask to speak to your enrollment advisor. This is what I do and I get rapid results. Good luck!

Hi ! Thanks for the advice. But I had initially been calling the 800 number and pushing option 3. There was an even longer hold than when I pushed option 1. The hold time was for more than one hour. But I have not tried to reach my enrollment advisor by phone in awhile. So maybe things have gotten better. On a positive note, I did receive 2 emails from my enrollment advisor today. She was very apologetic and explained again the serious transition problems with the new ownership. She encouraged me to complete my current course. She also reassured me that she would get my instuctor to contact me concerning my questions about my project. It is unfortunate that the new owners did not hire more staff to assist with this transition. I hope that things will get better for the current students who are affected by these changes.
