    Okay Guys,

My first time posting to the site. I have a confession, I screwed up and obtained a B.S. from Barrington University a few years ago. Not being familiar with all the accreditation stuff at that time, I have now found it to be useless.

I retired from law enforcement in 2001 and started teaching college. Something must have slipped through the cracks until now and there is a question about Barrington and accreditation.

I probably need to start all over. Looking at Excelsior, COSC and TESC. Need to eventually obtain my Masters within the next 3 years. First I need an accreditated Bachelors.

    What is my best bet?

I looked at all three in great detail and went with COSC. Do some searches and you will find many opinions on all three.

    Are you teaching criminal justice?

Are you seeking degrees in criminal justice?

Have you any credits from Regionally Accredited schools or any training that might be accepted for credit?

Bruce is the been-there-done-that guy for criminal justice.

    Criminal Justice

    Decimon,

Currently teaching criminal justice at community college.

    Started teaching part-time in 1993, went full-time January 2002.

25 years in law enforcement with tons of training certificates.

I do have some credits from regionally accreditated schools.

How do I hook up with Bruce?

    Any help is deeply appreciated.........

  5. Harley,

Sounds like you'd get a big chunk of your degree requirement taken care of with COSC via portfolio assessment. That would hopefully take care of most if not all core requirements that can't be tested out.

You could transfer this to Excelsior; they have a new BS in Criminal Justice with in-depth study in Law Enforcement and Public Safety (perhaps the best fit given your credentials?). If you don't care for a major, you could stick with COSC for a BS in General Studies with a concentration in Criminal Justice.

For the general education credits you would then apply any RA credits or take CLEP/DANTES exams.

Excelsior's Liberal Arts catalog can be found here: http://www.excelsior.edu/pdf/Liberal_Arts_Catalog.pdf (criminal justice starts on p31)

COSC's concentration for Criminal Justice can be found here: http://www.cosc.edu/Forms/criminaljustice.pdf

    Good luck!

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Re: Criminal Justice

I think I asked the right questions but you'll have to hang in a bit for those with the right answers. Mark mentioned COSC (Charter Oak State College) but other schools may as well grant credit for your certificates and/or experience.

Bruce is a LEO with an MS in CJ and a DegreeInfo Administrator. Hook up with him here as he'll cuff anyone in his jurisdiction. :)

Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to take a more in depth look at both of the schools mentioned. I have looked over the sites until I was dizzy............

Hope to hook up with Bruce soon!
