Well, I've got to say there is plenty of info on this site and a number of knowledgeable contributors!

    My question is fairly basic:

I am considering finishing my degree thru Excelsior. I currently have an AA degree from a regionally accredited school. Of the 120 credits needed for a BA, how many add'l credits do you think I will have to complete thru testing to add to my AA degree credits?

My real motive is to fast-forward thru my BA degree so that I can get into an MBA program. I am at a senior management level already in my career, so the addition of a BA does not really add anything to my resume - but an MBA will.

I am interested in all feedback, tips, etc in approaching the Excelsior program.

    Thanks in advance!

Well, I believe most AAs are around 60-70 units, so I'd think another 50-60 more. If you're thinking about the Excelsior business degree (since you mentioned future MBA), I believe there are 60 required units (incl. 45 units in business, 2 econ classes, statistics, and college algebra or higher). So if you have more than 60 units to transfer, some of them will have to fit into those areas to still be valuable to you.

If the goal is to get an MBA and the BA doesn't matter, you can enrol in Heriot-Watt's dl MBA program without a bachelors degree.

I am also looking into the Heriot-Watt MBA program. I am curious about the repuation of this program - but that should be a topic of another thead....

My concern is that if I end up in the market for a new job before I complete the Heriot program, I will be stuck in the 'no BA, no opportunity' situation....so I was thinking about hammering out the Excelsior BA degree ASAP.....

    Still open to input.....

    Thanks!

  5. Always sensible, since it's portable and then you can take your pick of MBA programs.

If you haven't already seen it, check out www.bain4weeks.com. This will give you a framework you can use to "test out" of a BA in a short period. Feel free to PM me if you'd like any other tips or suggestions - I'm completing my degree in about 9 months largely from scratch.

    Cheers,
    Mark
