I'm taking my second course at Cardean and got a serious shock today. Cardean sent out a note offering the Ellis College MBA. The impression I got was a big push to get students to transfer to EC. I''ve been to the EC site and it looks like a good place. But now I'm seriously considering applying to an AACSB accredited online school. Is the Cardean experience over? Any comments welcome.

I would presume that the Cardean program and Ellis College program are the same. UNext appears now to be marketing its MBA through the RA NYIT rather than through Cardean. Sounds to me like a good thing for students.

    Hi Flymuse,
Since you have taken two courses in Cardean, could you please let us know how you felt about the course.

I am seriously considering Ellis for my MBA program.

    Thanks,
    Aru

Thanks for your reply. From what I've read on this forum, going with RA is better than Cardean standing alone, at least for students.

But the big selling point for me about Cardean was the connection with Columbia, LSE, Carnegie Mellon etc. I reasoned I could bring this up during job interviews (as few people would have heard of Cardean) and that the partnership would help quicker accreditation.

Now I'm assessing the probability that these partners will want to continue the relationship with Ellis College. Also when I picked Cardean I did not know about other accredited online MBAs (either the accreditations are recent or my research was crap). I'm paying for the MBA myself and it's not cheap and so I'm asking myself: why not spend some more money but on an accredited course?

I have taken the Corporate Finance course and I'm now part-way through the Business Communication course.

The CF takes you through NPV and investment analysis and the Capital Asset Pricing Model and some investment ratios. I didn't think the course was that rigorous. I'm an accountant so maybe that explains, perhaps it was hard enough for a non-finance person. I have just re-read Brealey & Myers' Principles of Corporate Finance and that's what I call CF. I don't know what other MBA courses do on CF but I would expect a lot more rigour and knowledge from an MBA employed to run the finances of a company.

The BC course, I'm learning a lot from. So I've had a lot more value from it.

I had a look at the demo course from Arizona U and that seemed much more demanding than what I've experienced so far at Cardean. Maybe I'm too early in the course to judge properly.

I should say that I really like Cardean's approach of placing the student in a work environment and then setting the tasks around that scenario. It's a lot more fun and involving than reading a textbook and sitting an exam.

    Good luck.
