Looking for an alternative to taking the TECEP test to complete my Operations/Production Management requirement at Excelsior. I'm assume most Intro to Operations Management classes would do just fine. Basic main criteria are self-paced, affordable (no $1000 enrollment fee into their program to take 1 class), the quicker it can be completed the better, and no wait time between the desire to start the class and actually being able to start (no waiting for a new semester or having to wait 2 months to have material shipped to me). If you aware of anything that might work well, your advice would be greatly appreciate.

  2. Randy - any reason why you don't want to take the TECEP? Excelsior gives a Pass/Fail grade for this exam so you just need the bare minimum score.

Because I just got back my results and didn't receive the minimum score :p (Test came a month after I first studied, and I was too confident in my abilities to bother brushing up). I've already started to apply to jobs, assuming I passed all my classes, so now I'm in a bit of a pickle.

Upper Iowa University offers this class in a self study format; It is around $540.

From reading about their independent study courses it sounds as though you need submit each section of your coursework for grading which can take up to three weeks. If there are several sections, that would mean there is really no way to finish the course in under a couple months. Too much time for me, I'm afraid. Ideally, I would like something I could sign up for today, spend 10 hours on it a day (or less if possible hehe), and in a week be done with it.

  6. Bummer. How did you find it compared to the ECE or DANTES exams?

I'd say the questions are about as evenly difficult as some of the harder Dantes/ECE/CLEPs (for me this would be like Principles of Finance, Accounting, ect). It was nice that a few of the questions just seemed to be general management questions though. What is different, is that the passing score is simply a raw 60 out of 100 correct. Where, from discussions here on the board, most seem to agree the others tests only require a raw score of around 45-50% to pass. Also of note, ECEs have weighted questions and test questions that are thrown out. I'm not too certain how this effects the overall outcome of the test grade. I decided to use the Barron's Review Operations Management to study, since every other time I'd used a book from this series, I came out with an A. Guess the books are not as magical as I thought they were though. :) It sure would be easier to compare tests if there was a way for me to know my Dantes/ECE/CLEP actual percent of answers correct. :)

Back to my original question, does anyone know any way that I can complete an Operations/Production Management course in under a month (other than TECEP)? I've been looking, but even the independent study courses I've found have a minimum of about 6-8 weeks, plus grading time.

Athabasca University's Management Science 368 has a challenge for credit option.
