Hi, I am planning to embark on Master in Professional Accounting (MPA) with Univ. of Southern Queensland (USQ) via Informatics, Singapore. It is a kind of distance education.

The reason why I embark on this program is to allow me to gain admission into CPA Australia for the CPA Program as I am not an accounting graduate though I already hold a MBA from a UK University.

Can someone share with me their views of this program (MPA) with USQ? How is the reputation of USQ? What is the recognition of USQ's MPA program? What is the standing of this program in the accounting industry?

    Thanks.

    :)

The only person I can think of giving advice in this area is Peter French, but I do not know if he accesses this forum anymore. Peter, you there?

    Cheers,

    George

Not the Peter that George suggested, but maybe I can give some advice here anyway (like Peter French I am an Australian CPA).

I don't know about the MPA program or much about USQ for that matter, but if the course is accepted as an entry requirement for the Australian CPA, and if that is your main criterion, then I say go for it.

Australian univeristies are all of a reasonably high standard, and when they do vary in status or regard, it is usually in specific academic fields of study or for specific programs. For degrees where the main purpose is to qualify for entry into something else - like entry into the CPA - in my opinion it matters much less where the degree comes from. The USQ degree will be fine and if it suits your study circumstances then it is a good choice.

    Kind regards

    Peter Tucker

PS: (George - really cool web site you've got now, and a very cool photograph of yourself: are you always that relaxed?)

I'm registered as a student with USQ and I'm a satisfied customer. The only issue is that some of the faculty members can be very slow when it comes to review your exams or answer your questions.

The university is an accredited australian university so it won't raise any eye brows. It is not a top tier university but I would say it is of decent standard.
