    Hi everyone --

Just wondering if anyone on these boards has actually graduated (or is in the process) from Skidmore? Or, if not, do any of you have more information on their B.A. programs? I've been to the site and it all sort of seems to good to be true. They say they will accept all credits (c or above) from accredited institutions but they don't say how many community college level credits or upper level credits, etc. They're also very vague about what it would take to actually leave with a degree... I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has any real world experience with them. I realize Skidmore is a very well respected institution and frankly, that would be a good name to have on your record. The costs seem reasonable and the residency is nominal (nominal enough to actually envision this school possibly being a great choice).

    Any comments much appreciated,

    Reed

Yeah I actually called Skidmore College to get more info, but they were still vague or I was talking to the wrong person. I also got their brochure but some questions remain unanswered. The only one thing I was really concern about was that you have to make three mandatory visits to the campuswhich is kind of a problem if you live cross country.

You're not giving them much to work with, frankly. In order to get credits accepted, you have to meet them at least part way. Send them transcripts, even unofficial ones, and then get cataloge descriptions from the courses that they're having problems with. How do I know? My associates came from California, but my baccalaureate came from Penn State.

I have to say, PSU was very liberal with respect to the credits that they accepted, which is to say, 99 percent. I think there was only one class they did not accept, and that was a bonehead math class anyway. Other credits were accepted into categories I wouldn't have put them into, but rarely does that cause too much concern. Personally, if I had the wherewithall and the opportunity to go to a Skidmore, there aren't many institutions that would turn my head.

Having said that, let me say this: it's generally better to get your baccalaureate in the same area you're planning on starting your career in. After you're established, it's probably not as critical, but starting out.... Let's just say that you would think that a nationally-ranked institution like Penn State would be instantly recognizable amongst Californians, but you'd be wrong. Too many of them (my fellow Californians), get this almost puzzled look on their faces like they've vaguely heard of Penn State, but they're not sure where, and they don't want to admit that they don't really recognize it--you know the look? Yeah, that one.

However, don't let that stop you from going where you want to go. It'll all work out.
