Does anyone have any thoughts on Howard Taft's MBA? They receved DETC accreditaion last year. The MBA has a concentration on Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management. Thanks in advance :)

Me too. So would it be correct for holders of the WHTU JD to say that the degree is DETC accredited? Seems so.

As for the MBA, it seems like the tuition is reasonable and the coursework looks substantial, but I don't have any direct knowledge of the program.

    What happened to the William?

    It sounded kinding Boring

Your right. I forgot the William. Plus it sounds so British. Sure he's the only person to be President and Chief Justice of the Supreme court. Why didn't he change his name to something cool, like Clint, Rhett, or Jake?

Anyway, I like their emphasis on their MBA, most are international business, or corporate. They seem affordable, and have a flexible plan to graduate. The've been around for years, and finally got DETC this year. Does this mean they would be eligible for Veterans Agency, VA funding like the Navy GI Bill?

Why would anyone consider a DETC MBA when there are so many RA MBA programs around. CSUDH, North Alabama, to name only two.

    Good Point

Thanks for the heads up. I looked into the MBA at CSUDM (Cal state University at Dominguez Hills) too, but it has a different emphasis. It is in my list of final 3. I like WHTU's entrepeneurship and Small Bus focus. I believe that CSUDH has an emphasis in Marketing which I also like.

Do you think a DETC MBA is of less value than a RA MBA? If there is a significant difference, I might readjust my final 3.

    Re: Good Point

    From the WHT site:

The Program will not be of material benefit to individuals seeking a career objective of employment in a large national or multi-national company.

I think this statement probably relates to the fact that the program is entrepreneurial in nature and therefore won’t benefit people who simply want to work for mega-corporations.

I had a friend who completed this program 7 or 8 years ago. She had hoped to complete the program in one year but it took her over two. She said the program was helpful but running a business takes lots of time and hard work.

If your goal is to be self-employed, who cares if the degree is unaccredited or accepted by employers? This was years before Taft got their DETC accreditation.

Here, I'll prove that I'm a consultant by saying that it depends... While I'm sympathetic to quality schools that may not be regionally-accredited, there are instances, such as adjunct teaching or full-time employment at a major corporation, where accreditation of the degree may (i.e., will) be important. It may be in the best interest of distance learners to seek the highest-quality and best-accredited degree programs that they can afford. However, it terms of personal growth and skill attainment it might make sense to pursue almost any rigorous and systematic study of a topic, regardless of the institution. It's hard to generalize about what is best for every single person who wants to learn and is self-employed; the potential reasons seem too diverse.

    Best wishes,

    Dave

    Great information

Thanks you guys. This is some great information. My intent isn't to be a manager for some other company, but rather build my own business. Therefore, WHTU would suffice. I believe with a strong work history and interview, a DETC MBA would be suffiecient too. I have seen some people get an RA MBA and expect the world to open their doors and beg them to come aboard. Give me somebody who is street smart, hungry and a good work habit anyday. A good education helps a lot, but it needs drive and action to make the grade. a perfect example was that MD & MBA on Trumps' Apprentice Show. The guy expected everyone to bow down to his high IQ and degrees. And sure enough he's the first one booted off by Trump. There were 14 people on that show I would have hired prior to that guy.
