I'm interested in obtaining a master's with creative writing emphasis. I think I could do that with Mountain State's MA in Interdisciplinary Studies. But I could also get an MA degree specifically in creative writing from a couple of Australian schools. My question: which would be better for teaching purposes (college level) in the U.S?
Australian Degree Any master's degree from a well established university (i.e., legitimate), by virtue of the work produced to earn it, qualifies one to teach, etc. The issue of whether an American university trumps an Australian university--(or for that matter any other institution from anywhere else)-- is ultimately an issue of perception. (All things being equal as regards the "accreditation" playing field), credibility is the point of your question, and credibility is in the eye of the beholder. Kenneth K. A.
Re: Australian Degree IF you are anywhere near Appalacia, Mtn State U will serve you well. But if you are in the West or even the Mid-West, my guess is that any Aussie University will carry you further. Although both are "exotic" other regions, southern (or otherwise "hick") universities have negative chachet, while foreign universities will likely have positive halo effects. When in doubt, ask around. When you have a choice, there's no excuse to be disappointed because of where you will use the degree! --Orson
A bit, off question. Hi, I have had difficulty decyphering Mountain state's distance MLS offerings. Is there a central document or web page that has more info? Thanks Dan B.
