During my weekly read of Wednesday's Australian Higher Education Supplement, I could not beleive my eyes when I came to page 41. Top right hand corner is an advertisment for Washington International University - actively promoting 'Distance Learning American Degrees' which can be earned with 'Your private American Advisor'.

As per usual, only fax and e-mail contact details are provided.

I think I can smell another Senate Enquiry coming on!

    Cheers,

    George

Doesn't Washington International University have a satellite campus on Norfolk Island?

It is quite funny under faculty they have 2 photos of an "Academic and Staff dinner party". NO names, titles or other information. hmmmm what does this mean???

I also noted the "Institute of Business Management" cooperates with WIU see http://www.ibmg.ac.id/message.htm. At least "IBM" gives a listing of faculty- wonder if they exist?

Dr. Oscar Gonzales has a Ph.D. in Business Management from WIU. Dr. Gonzales is the Executive Vice-President of the Houston Association of REALTORS. See http://www.nahrep.org/bio_gonzales.htm just who I want to buy a house from.

A quick search showed a lot of people with WIU degrees out there.

First there was WIU in Hawaii, then Pennsylvania . . . . . and now South Dakota !!!

By the way, has anyone checked out the dozens of WIU graduates on the net?

They advertised in The Australian again today.

Where is their degree granting authority from?

Strange that the HES allows this to happen.

    Interesting...

Several years ago when I began searching for a DL school, WIU sent me a copy of their prospectus. It seems to me that they have a slick, well organized operation (kind of like a mobile school that can move from state to state when the authorities catch on).
The requirements for their MBA and PhD programs require only a few courses and a paper. Graduates are given a clock (WIU insignia) upon graduation.

From WIU owner Yil Karademir to my daughter and co-author, exactly as received:

"Regarding your father's comments to our present or prospective students is UNPROFESSIONAL at best, and EVIL at worst! ... I do not wish to take legal action against your father based on a his email communication with [name of person] but if he continues to make negative remarks instead of just stating the facts and we catch again I shall have no choice to proceed."

But then their catalog says that "the efficiency of the staff allows smooth and prompt passage...from one end to the other." That's passage of information, of course.

Last I checked, their campus had moved from Pennsylvania to South Dakota to the British Virgin Islands.

You mean it wasn't a commercial for a laxative?
