Excelsior College has an Information Literacy requirement for new students starting January 1st of this year. I am considering finishing up my Bachelor degree with this college. It states that they (Excelsior) want the student to think independently, be critically minded when it comes to information, and to know how to effectively do research using proper sources. This sounds to me like it is a “Critical Thinking” requirement. So, I thought that I would meet this requirement by taking a course in Critical Thinking. What are your thoughts and the course (Critical Thinking) that I am thinking of taking talks that you need to understand information both written and oral argumentation, which sounds like this would meet the criteria. Has anyone had any experience with this new requirement of Excelsior concerning the “Information Literacy?” It seems to be somewhat broad and there is not a precise course that is offered at other colleges that I am aware of. Thanks.

The course description reads like it has more than a critical thinking requirement:

"• Determine the nature and extent of the information needed
    • Access needed information effectively and efficiently
    • Evaluate information and sources critically
    • Incorporate selected information into the knowledge base and value system
    • Understand many of the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information
    • Access and use information ethically and legally."

I would play it safe and take the course directly from the college for $225.00. It's only a one semester hour course. Here's the link to the enrollment form (in case you don't already have it):
