The 14th edition of Bears' Guide indicated that CSU was unaccredited (at the time of going to the press). Now there is an updated information on this school at www.degree.net that CSU has gained DETC Accreditation. Any comments on this school as to its credibility?

Yes, they are in fact DETC accredited. They join a list of schools that are either DETC accredited or were considered for DETC accreditation that I'm not particuarly impressed with.

FWIW, I'm not against DETC accreditation, per se. One of my favorite DL schools, American Military University, is DETC accredited, and I wouldn't be surprised if they applied and received regional accreditation soon.

As for Columbia Southern itself, they have in the past claimed "accreditation" from everyone's favorite accreditation mill, ACI. To CSU's credit, they dropped their doctoral programs and cleaned up their act enough to satisfy the DETC, which counts for something.

My personal opinion...there are much better schools available, even at the DETC level. What type of program are you looking for?

They are cool, huh? I like the way they combine Intermediate Service School (Naval War College, Air Command and Staff College, Army command and General Staff College, and Marine Command and Staff College) with other academics to form an M.A. with your service's specialty.

Rich Douglas, who, as an Air Force officer, completed the Marine Command and Staff nonresident course. I had to plan a mock invasion of the North County, San Diego coastline as the final project. I wouldn't recommend it in real life, though. Those surfers would kick our butts! [IMG]
