    Hello,
Can someone provide me with the total cost of a BS at Excelsior?
I have been searching their website abd it is absolutely a mess when it comes to Tuition and Fees. In the end you get more confused and without getting a definite understanding.

    Thank you, Josh

No one can give you a total cost. There are too many variables. However, it will cost you almost $1000/yr academic advising fee to Excelsior. There is also a small fee (I forget how much) to graduate.

In between those two times, your costs will depend on how many credits you already have and how you plan on satisfying your remaining requirements.

As an example, I started off with 73 credits after Excelsior evaluated my prior schooling, exams and certifications. The remainder of the 120 credits I need for a BS in Liberal Arts will be satisfied by exams (CLEP, DANTES, ECE). I have estimated that all of these exams, study material and my fees to Excelsior will cost about $3000, by the time I am done.

If you have fewer existing credits and/or need to take actual courses (in a classroom, online or via correspondence), your costs will be higher.

I was somewhat confused myself when I first applied. Downloading the catalog for the degree in question from the Excelsior site helped. Once you are enrolled, you can phone or email the advisors and they can help you figure out what you need. There are also other resourses on the web site that are only available to registered students (courses to take, exams to take). Of course, spending some time reading all the great posts on this forum will answer a lot of questions. I started reading this forum months ago and only today created an account, so I could post.

BTW, I do agree with you that the Excelsior web site could be a little more helpful to new students. Perhaps they just need to organize things differently.

I think fees and costs is something every college website should put out in the open and easy to find. This is one of my beefs with Excelsior. To me, it seems like they do their best to hide their costs where COSC and TESC are relatively easy to find. Their are other RA colleges who also seem to hide their fees in remote areas. I look for costs before I even research a program, it's a deciding factor for me.

I thought that the materials that Exclesior mailed me clearly stated the cost of the degree. I just didn't believe it. About a grand, take some free (I'm in the military) tests, then pay a graduation fee? Sounds simple enough.

As for paying for books and couses, I find that old school textbooks work just fine when studying for the tests.

Excelsior's fees are clearly stated. On their website there is a section marked "Fees & Tuition." You click on "General Information," and then follow the link to the publications page. There you will find an entire section called "Fee Schedules" which has documents to tell you whatever you need to know. Admittedly it's a bit easier to find at www.itedegree.com, but it's not hidden.

To correct something from the first response and add a little more info, it will currently cost you about a 1,000 USD to enroll your first year, and each year after that is about 450 USD, not 1,000. The graduation fee is about 500, so you're guarenteed at least 1,500 USD to graduate. A little known fact is that each time you pay an annual fee (the initial or recurring), you have 13 months to graduate. If you graduate within 1 month of your annerversary date, they will completely credit your annual fee towards your graduation fee.

    Best of luck,

    Daniel

ps, the prices noted above are for out of state, non-millitary students in a BS/BA program. It might be less for others.

  7. How much to graduate with MA/MS?

Is there a yearly fee plan for the masters? Do they hold you up in order to extract more annual fees? BTW, Daniel's link didn't work.

  8. Graduate tuition is $310/credit plus

More than $300/credit plus $500 annual fee plus $1800 thesis fee. This is way more expensive than many other schools. I'm a college graduate but I think the fee schedule is very confusing...

Perhaps I would understand it better if I have experience in contract law. Please explain what I'm missing.

The Excelsior admissions counselor I spoke with agreed their website is a mess and difficult to find topics in, even with the alphbetical index, interesting.

  10. Master in Liberal Studies $310/credit plus

a 3% processing fee plus annual student fee plus graduation fee and other non-specific fees. With all the fees, I don't think Excelsior is all that competitive.

Re: How much to graduate with MA/MS?

Follow the links mentioned, and you will find all the fee schedules.

It wasn't really meant to be a link, but the forum made it one, adding a comma at the end. this link should work.
