In about two hours I'll be sitting for my first two tests. Wish me luck. In less than 8 weeks I've gone from just randomly looking on the internet for a way to complete a degree to starting down the path for real. This is all thanks to this site (and you fine people) and the BA in 4 weeks site (thanks Lawrie) posters here lead me to. I'll report back tonight on my thoughts about the tests. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Thanks!!!!!!:D

    I'm Back!!!!

Okay while it's fresh in my mind.

I took Analyzing and Interpreting Literature (I have zero previous coursework in any literature class since 1972 i.e. high school, who remembers that? And I haven't picked up a classic since, nor will I ever again).

I used the College Board Clep prep book 2004 edition for the mock test. I found the level of difficulty and the wording of possible answers to be very close. The passages were not same but the style of writing is dead on. Get comfortable with tortuous poetry. Half of my test was poetry. I had a passage from Antigone. One passage from the 1940's and one poem from 1975, don't remember either author. I had to re-read most passages at least twice to get the jist of what I was reading.

My son mentioned to me to read poetry out loud if at all possible. Since I was the only person in the room, I did this, albeit at a whisper, and it really did seem to help.

I took 86 of the 90 minutes given to take the test and got through the whole thing.

    I scored a 66. Yeah!!!!!!

    That's six credits.

I also took the dantes Criminal Justice. If you are in law enforcement I think this will be a no-brainer for you. BUT, if your knowledge of our system is relegated to TV's 'Law and Order' I recommend Cliff's Criminal Justice, about 200 pages, nine bucks. It covered the test about 95%. I read the book only, didn't study it. I'd say about 25% of my test was about the juevenile court system, which is something I knew nothing about until I read the book. Know Miranda, Mapp, Wainwright and Gideon and what they covered. Know the fourth, fifth, sixth and fourteenth amendments to the constitution. I'd say half the test you'll know if you watch cop shows.

Won't know my grade for 3-4 weeks but feel I passed okay.

    That's three more credits.

So 80 current credits plus 9 (added in under 3 hours of tests) I'm at 89 of the 120, only 31 to go. I'm almost a Senior, wow.

    :D

  7. Fantastic! Congratulations!

I'm awaiting my results from Criminal Justice...should arrive any day now.

    Cheers,
    Mark
