Hey, I am filling out my application for Bellevue U and UNA, and there is something that I am struggling with. I completed my undergrad in April , but it says May on my diploma. So what should put on my application April or May? Since we are on this topic I would also like to hear the same advice when it comes to resumes. Thanks Bo
I would use the official date of award which should appear on your transcript and which is likely the one that appears on your diploma. I think you remain only a candidate until the official graduation date.
I went throught the same thing with ESC. I completed my courses in August, but my degree says October. On my resume I just put 2003.
I just don't put years on my resume; solves that whole "when did I really graduate" problem. It's funny to notice in myself this last year, as I gained the hiring responsibility, that I could care less when you actually went to school as long as you have the requisite degree. Guess this is a carry-over of my belief in not listing dates on my resume. But, I also haven't sent out a resume in many, many years, so what would I know. When I did my diploma, I knew it was a one year Diploma. I started in Jan and finished in Jan the next year. However the actual diploma that I received has a date of Feb. I put the date from Jan 2000 - Jan 2001. If they are only asking for your graduation date then it would be May in your case. But if they are asking for the start and end date then you should put the actual date.
You will never face negative issues if you put the date that is reflected on your transcripts. Your transcripts should have the date the degree was awarded. Further, HR folks will want official transcripts to validate your degree not the diploma. As we have seen in this board diplomas are easily acquired (for that matter so are fake transcripts). If you are concerned, your university will probably issue a new diploma.
