    Hi,

I am planning to do MS in biinformatics through distance learning. As I was doing the research I came across 'Knowledge Systems Institute' which is offering MS in bioinformatics totally online. Can any one tell me how good is this University? Do you know of any one who has done MS from this university?
Are there any other universities offering MS in Bioinformatics?

    Thank You
    Radha.

Well, I worked in Skokie for 2 years and lived in Chicago for 10 years and I've never heard of them. Take that for what it's worth.

Honestly, I think you'd be better off with a pure computational science degree or statistics degree if that's your area of interest. Bioinformatics seems to be one of those fad degrees that are exploding in number due to expected demand. Much like the e-commerce degrees that flourished in the mid 90's that are now not all that marketable.

Personally, I think you should probably do something more concrete, like the Colorado State statistics MS if that's your focus. If you want a computational degree that can be applied to bioinformatics, then I'd go with something like DePaul's MS in computer science with a data analysis concentration. If you want pure biotechnology, UMUC offers that.

Do a job search at Medzilla -- you'll see that for most jobs require at least an MS in statistics for biostatistics jobs or an MS in CS for statistical programing jobs in biotechnology. You'll rarely, if ever, see a bioinformatics degree required. Unfortunately, even if the degree is dead on, most people hiring come from the more traditional routes to that career path.

    Just my opinion...

I do believe RIt has an online program in bioinformatics

KSI is perfectly legitimate (and RA).
