I'm looking at an add for a junior position at a staffing company, and it says this under the "pay" section

    25,000.00 - 30,000.00 USD /year
    Plus Bonuses - Base DOE

What does Base DOE mean? And an even dumber question, what sort of bonuses does the "plus bonuses" refer to? I've never had or tried to apply for an adult job before. :)

    Depending on experience.

    Dead on Errorival?

Bonuses could be based on several different variables, including individual performance, work group performance, local office performance, and/or companywide performance, with performance being measured by another huge and sometimes irrelevant bunch of variables.

    good luck,

Make sure to get the bonus part in writing in your offer letter. If it isn't in writing, it probably won't happen.

I was under the impression that bonuses was usualy stuff like profit sharing, company car/allowance, shift differential, etc. While this stuff is great, don't ever include this as your actualy salary (when deciding whether or not you can live on a particular salary that is). They can take all that stuff away (they can take a percentage of your base salary away too)! When I first started job hunting prior to my release form active duty, headhunters would advertise positions making 70K+ a year. I would think to my self, "holy cow! I can't even count that high! That's great, I want that job!". What you don't realize is that this guy factored in some theoretical salary earned if you worked on mid-shift, w/ max profit sharing, Santa Clara cost of living base salary, car allowance, etc. You would find out you were only making 16 dollars an hour base!
