Accreditation by stealth? Well it seems like it!!!

It is obvious that these institutions have invested a great deal of money in legal/consultants fees and have uncovered the legal/academic loop-holes of global proportions.

Dr. Les Carr (Vanderbilt U.), CPU's president told me in person last Thursday that he would start pursuing NWASC regional accreditation within a month if he achieved the Malawi accredition. In an update he emailed me yesterday and said that he will also be looking at DETC. Hmmmmm.....Start your clocks....NOW.

Should we set them forward one hour, or back one hour?

I think that a moral of this story is that new schools often fail when they don't achieve an independent institutional identity, and remain the playthings of a single individual or of a small group.

Greenwich/Walsh and CPU/Carr both seem to be examples. When the institution and the man can't be clearly distinguished, the personal desires of the one can be confused with the institutional needs of the other. But the desires and whims of the owner do not always equate to the best interests of the institution.

Of course, neither are new, both dating back to the 1970s.

Let's see .... either forward on hour ... or ....back one hour. Except if you're are in Newfoundland (where I am originally from). Then ...
whatever you do ... forward ... or backward ... set your watch 1/2 hour behind that.

Perhaps some of the pain of a new and sincere school could be alleviated by following an official "RA Track" procedure published by the accrediting body. An institution could constantly self-evaluate and publish its progress against the track and perhaps occasionally have mini-assessments by the accrediting body to validate the progress.
