    Hello All --

If I were to actually enroll in a Charter Oak BA program (or Excelsior or TE), and I were to have my offcial transcripts sent to them from the veritable bevy of colleges that I've taken classes at over the past 15 years, I'm wondering about the following situation:

Say you were not exactly the stand-up student you are today. Inbetwixt the many A's and B's you garnered in general ed, there are several Withdrawls and Incompletes not to mention (gasp) an F or two. It doesn't look too good on first viewing, but as time went on you seemed to get your act together and now you're a sparkling example of academic redemption on paper... What will happen? Will the school actually transfer all of the classes, hence the most likely abominable GPA, or will they transfer only bonafied passed courses with a grade of C or better? Can you choose what you want evaluated for transfer or is this the fantasy of a repentant student?

Thanks for all comments (and personal experiences, especially!),
    Reed

    Reed,

I am a graduate of Excelsior from its recent past when it was Regents College. From what I remember, your fantasy may be a reality. I believe that you are able to pick and choose the courses (therefore the grades) which you want to transfer into your degree program. I also don't believe they accept coursework with a grade of less than a C, therefore they shouldn't appear anywhere on your offical Excelsior transcript, dragging down your gpa in the process.

Perhaps a recent Excelsior grad or current student could state more definitely the current policies.

Hope that some of this was helpful,

    Reed,

take a look at Charter Oak. I believe I just read that you can do exactly what you want. Transfer the stuff that you want and avoid the rest. However, I believe I also read that if you take a course through them then the normal rules of grades would apply. I would recommend you contact them. But go to their website and take a look at the student handbook.

    Happy New Year!

Excelsior does accept Ds for courses. (They require Cs for challenge exams, and for certain specific courses such as the English requirement.) But they will exclude any course you ask them to exclude. They require a minimum GPA of 2.0, i.e. a C average. They do not record pluses or minuses after letter grades.
