Excelsior College and Charter Oak Question

Excelsior College and Charter Oak State College offers the Bachelor of Arts degree. I am interested in getting one of these from one of the schools but was wondering if anybody has had first hand experience when dealing with either of these schools. In terms of which one has more flexibility for the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts. I was also wondering if a college has given you transfer credit for courses but there is no grade associated with it – would Excelsior of Charter Oak still give the student credit for these courses provided they were on a college transcript from an accredited school? Has anyone had any situation like this? I have just two other questions – if you have enough credits to graduate and pay the fees to either college – about how long does it take to get your degree? And with the Excelsior degree, does this just list Excelsior – or does it state “State University of New York – Excelsior College?” I know that Excelsior became a private institution a couple years ago, so I was just wondering if the State University of New York is still associated with Excelsior? i.e. if you were to graduate from a college that is associated with the State University of New York – it will say on the degree “State University of New York – and then the name of the college.” Thanks.

Every college in NYS is part of the University of the State of New York which is not the same as the State University of New York. Excelsior was, and is, part of the former but never of the latter.

The degree requirements are listed in the college catalogues on the Web:
    http://www.excelsior.edu/pdf/Liberal_Arts_Catalog.pdf
    http://www.cosc.edu/Advising/Degreerequirements.cfm
You need to compare the credits you have with the requirements.

Credits awarded should be about the same, unless you have foreign credits or are taking a GRE subject exam.

At Excelsior, the Bachelor of Science is more flexible than the Bachelor or Arts. The BA requires most credits to be in Arts & Science subjects, while the BS allows more "Applied Professional" credits in almost anything.

Charter Oak State College is much smaller, and the service will feel more personal.

Certainly; these will be recorded as "P" for "Pass" on the Excelsior transcript.

Plan for about 3 months after they receive your last transcript. Excelsior takes 6 to 8 weeks to evaluate transcripts, and then you have to apply for graduation.

Last I heard, the diplomas say "Excelsior College" and "Member of the University of the State of New York".

Doesn't COSC require fewer upper level credits?

COSC will give you a "P" for some CLEPS and a grade for other CLEPS depending on your score. I have not taken a course elsewhere that did not have a greade

It will take 6-8 weeks for the eval and then you must write your essay if you plan to take the "Individualize Studies" route. This will add about three months because there are evaluated every other month I think
