Was checking out other forums to research distance learning. Was shocked to find that they mostly spend time bashing degreeinfo.com and John Bear. I am glad I found this site first. It has been very helpful in my search for a DL school. The threads on this forums are very informative and helpful.

I posted the same thing on the "board secrets" thread. It is sad, but at least there is one good one out here!

Many of these "other forums" are set up as forums to promote non-accredited schools and diploma mills. Dr. Bear has been one of the leading figures in exposing what he calls "less than wonderful" schools and bogus accrediting agencies.

Since certain "less than wonderful" people make a great deal of money as a result of selling degrees based on little or no academic work, they are not at all happy with Dr. Bears efforts to expose them for the charlatains that they are. Also, people who have puchased their "less than wonderful" degrees from these "universitities"are not at all happy when Dr. Bear lets the world know that their degrees are bogus.

Since this Degreeinfo forum also engages in "outing" those who are involved in "less than wonderful" forms of "education", it has also been attacked in many of these "other forums".

I am a professional in the field of instructional technology and distance education and have yet to find a more valuable discussion forum in the area of distance learning than Degreeinfo. If you find another comparable one, please let me know.

So far nothing I have found even compares to this site.

Certainly as a whole, the professionalism displayed in this forum over others is noteworthy.

There was a time when the DL site at About.com was also a good source of information. But the current moderator has allowed it to become a sewer, despite the fact that he observes it and posts occasionally.

Well this forum is great. I have been able to get a lot of info about distance learning from this site. I am grateful I found this site. I think it is a shame that most of others spend time bashing this site and John Bear. People really need good information and can't find it there, it is buried in the bashing.
