They're a perfectly kosher, government-funded effort. In essence, they provide the technology platform leaving their partner universities free to concentrate on the course content.

So far, they've not got many students on their courses (900 so far), but they only launched to students in March of this year.

As a personal disclaimer, I should add that I worked for UKEU's CTO for two and a half years at Oxford developing Oxford's first online continuing education courses, and if he's taken his student-centred approach to e-learning with him to UKEU, the technology end of things could be very good indeed.

    Missing University from web listing.

The University of Sunderland is missing from the engineering section of the site.

The University of Sunderland has a distance learning program in several topics.

I read a recent article that was in one of the major British newspapers that talked about UKeU's financial problems. Nevertheless, it sounds like a very promising organization, and I hope they succeed.

They are offering an MA in War Studies through Kings College which looks interesting. And it's NOT part of UoL's External Programme. It sounds like they are trying to break away from UoL's very traditional, though some might say, staid, way of doing things, and offer something more cutting edge technology-wise.

Ah, The Observer's "30 million pound flop" article, I suspect. http://education.guardian.co.uk/elearning/story/0,10577,1091987,00.html

Mind you, as they were promised sixty-two million, I think they have some time yet before they any real financial problems.

There's more information about that on the KLC War Studies website at http://www.kcl.ac.uk/depsta/wsg/prospectus/eprogramme.html
My only reservation would be the fees. Compared to the £1,470 a year I'd pay to do the MA in War Studies part-time, the new programme is pretty pricey.

Yep, that's the article. And you're right about the price. With today's ruthless exchange rate, we in the US are looking at nearly $18,000. Ouch.
