WHERE Can one study a PHD degree in Philosophy?

It seems to me a combination of distant learning -- and meetings every once in a while would be idea.

BUT I can see traditionalists will raise their voices.

    thanks

Completely nonresidentially: through the University of South Africa, though the degree will be a DLitt et Phil rather than a Ph.D. (I have been told that a DLitt et Phil can be listed as a Ph.D., but I don't really see how.)

In a low-residency (meetings) format: through the University of Wales, Lampeter, which is especially strong in the area of philosophy of religion.

This just in: Monash University, which is considered prestigious in the field of philosophy, has been known to negotiate research degrees on a low-residency basis.

All of these programs are what one would call research-based, and none of them could be accurately described as easy.

    Good luck.

Frank - I've done lots of research on this subject and can probably give you a few tips but it would be easier if I knew more about your interests (in philosophy), restrictions (in terms of money, time, travel, etc) and your goals for obtaining the degree. Send me a note and I'll be happy to make some suggestions. Jack [email protected]

You certainly have -- how did I manage to forget that you've actually done more lately to investigate the possibility of overseas research doctorates in philosophy than any of us? Excellent work, and thank you.
