Hi. I wanted to know if anybody knew if Excelsior or Charter Oak State College will accept a "D" grade in a subject? The reason why I am asking this is because I got a "D" in Earth Science, while all of my other courses I received a C or above. I know that some schools will not necessarily transfer in the course with a grade of less than a C, but they will sometimes allow you to be waived of the requirement because the course was passed. I noticed with Excelsior that it stated that a grade of C would only be accepted in as a concentration, but was not sure if anyone had the same experience that I had with getting one "D" in a course and whether this could be added against the requirements toward a degree. I was also wondering how Excelsior or Charter Oak works the GPA in your transcript. Do your grades that you received at the other schools you have attended get placed on your transcript and how does it reflect on the transcript. Also, I saw where someone was able to get some evaluation from Charter Oak before commiting to any of the fees to see where they stood in terms of credits being transferred in and what they would need in order to graduate. Does Excelsior do this also, and if so, does anyone have a name of a person I could contact that they have worked with and a phone number if possible, so that I would be able to give them this information and know where I stand before I commit to either school? Thanks everyone. I really would like to get my degree and feel that perhaps through one of these colleges I could finish up my degree requirements. Have a good day!

I think you can get credit for a "D" from COSC but you can not use that credit as part of your concentration.

As far as GPA, they use all the grades you earned from the other schools.

I had a 'D' that was transfered over at Excelsior. I am not sure if you can apply 'D''s to the concentration/major, however.

I received a AAS from Excelsior and had a D on my transcripts that I transfered to them. They gave me 3.5 units that course was worth.

I wonder if they would give me the 3 units I got for a D I got in Statistics a couple of years ago. I want to do a Business degree or a Liberial Arts with a Criminal Justices.

Excelsior will extend credit for lower level courses in which you scored a D or higher. They will not issue credit for any concentration or upper division courses which you have a D or lower.

I was able to get a good idea of what my credits would do at COSC before paying the 175.00 to have an official evaluation completed. My phone bill reflects one call of 51 minutes and one call of 68 minutes that I spent with COSC in November before actually paying any fees for an official evaluation, all this time spent answering questions in depth. I found them great to work with. Neither Excelsior or TESC would even talk to me at all without paying some sort of fee. That's why I chose COSC.

They took all my credits and only disallowed my math for satisfying their core requirements, I still got the credit, just not credit for the math they want, they gave it to me toward liberal arts totals needed.

As far as the grades, I don't know because I had nothing below a B. I would say the others above are correct. I know at Excelsior you can suppress any grades you don't want figured in your GPA but I would guess if you suppress it you don't get the credit either.

COSC will accept D's but like the others said, "not towards the concentration". Every grade that is transferred is reflected on your transcript and used to calculate your GPA. However unless something has changed, the GPA is not reflected on the transcript. After you get your evaluation done they send you a break down that does have your GPA on it but this is not reflected on your transcript.

One other note about Excelsior and grades of D: In addition to not accepting them for certain classes, there is a minimum GPA requirement for graduation (2.0 maybe?). If you have enough Ds to take your GPA below that minimum requirement, you will have to have some of them removed from your transcript and replaced with other courses.
