    Hey all,

I'm Ron, a 34 year old 'MBA-type' considering some online education. I've come across several statistics programs and they all look pretty good (Colorado State, Iowa State, etc.) but I am also intrigued by some of the online quality programs. Both Eastern Michigan University and California State have programs from which I think I could learn a lot to use in improving my firm's service offerings.

Are some of the Dominquez Hills guys hanging around? I've seen a few quality folks on the board. If so, can you folks tell me what you think of the quantitative offerings from your respective programs and their applicability to improving service operations?

As an aside, I've taken some courses from VA Tech and Strayer University and I'm set to sit for the CPA in 2004 due to my Strayer education. I'll be happy to answer any questions about those programs. I also earned a 'bricks and not clicks' MBA from James Madison University.

Finally, if anyone is interested in a distance learning program in Logistics (and yeah, if I don't do a quality MS, I'll do a Logistics MS beginning in late 2004), FIT has an excellent program that can be customized (I have a contact).

    Thanks,

    R

Hi Ron - Your questions are way way out of my league but I saw your message going down for the third time and thought I'd bump it up to the top again, just to give others a second shot at it. I'll confess that after reading your posting I'm rather unclear about just what you're seeking. Another Masters? A PhD? In either case, you seem unclear yourself about your specific interests. Statistics? QA? Logistics? I'm guessing that you've not gotten much of a response because it's unclear just what you want, and just what you're asking. Try again?

    hey Jack

    Hey Jack,

I'm sorry if my message didn't seem straight-forward. Let me try again:

    * I have an MBA and I am in the process of deciding upon another Masters.
    * You're right in stating that I am interested in either a Masters in Quality, Statistics or Logistics. The three subject areas are not necessarily that far removed, however. Logistics can be a very quantitative field (depends on the school). There are applied or industrial stats programs that cater to business and 'quality' is really a subset of both fields in a way (Logistics and Applied Stats). Think of it this way, you can have an industrial engineer, statistician and MBA type all applying for a job as a 'Supply Chain Manager' . Of the three, statistics is the most removed from the other two, especially if it isn't an industrial stat program, BUT it isn't unusual to see a lot of quantitative classes in a Logistics program.
    * I was wondering if someone from CSUDH's program would speak to that program's quantitative courses as they relate to service measurement. If you're a Quality person, you'll know what I mean.
    * Florida Institute of Technology has a Master's degree in Logistics Management. I spoke with a gentleman there who said that, within reason, they'd even be willing to customize their program. I thought that was cool and was trying to share.

The CSUDH MSQA is offered by both on/off campus sites and by distant learning. There are two MSQA options: Manufacturing and Service although I am not sure if the service option is offered thru DL.
A listing of courses for the manufacturing and service options and course descriptions is available at

The last time I checked, the Iowa State program was only open to employees of subscribing corporations, mainly GM.

Rochester Inst. of Technology also has an applied stat MS.

Well it seems there's a Masters program in QA at Lehigh University and also at Rensselaer Polytech. For a Statistics Masters you could look at Colorado State or Rochester Institute of Technology. For Logistics you could take a look at Kettering University. If you're willing to go non-US there are additional choices in each category. Good luck,
    Jack
