I have read that COSC requires proficiency exams to be taken in a particular order whereas Excelsior doesn't. I've searched for the particulars but haven't found anything. Can anyone tell me which tests to leave for last if I'm considering a BS in Business from COSC?

    Thanks

For general education you need to take the CLEP "General Exams" first. After that it doesn't matter too much. Take DANTES Intro. to Business (which is lower level) before you take ECE Business Policy and Strategy (which is upper level) - it is mostly common sense. Ask COSC if you have any questions - they have always been quick to answer my questions.

    Question for cmt

I'm starting pretty much from scratch. How close are you and how long has it been, if you don't mind my asking?

Not only is the order of tests importnat but also the combination of tests need to be considered. I took CLEP History and Social Science and only recieved 3 credits because I had taken the CLEP History I, CLEP Sociology, and Gov class.

Even though I spoke to an advisor and was told that I would get 6 credits, I only got 3 after the official eval. It really did not matter to me since I had 130 credits in the end but if every credit counts, aviod duplication.

That makes sense. The reason I asked is that one person I read about who got his BS from COSC said that if you take a more difficult test first, the less difficult one on the same subject won't count, even though both are required. I don't know what you'd do in that situation. I know some of the info and links on the bain4weeks site are out of date, but would you happen to know if the sample plans for obtaining a BS thru testing out are still accurate? Also, I've visited all three school's websites and I can't even figure out what all this is going to cost. If I added right, COSC will cost $1335 if I finish in less than a year(non-resident). TESC's(I'm a NJ resident) list of fees is confusing as all getout and I couldn't even find any fees on Excelsior's site. I'm sorry to ask you so many questions at once, but sometimes it's just faster to consult with someone who's done it.

    Thanks
    John

If you would like, I can email you my plan. It will answer many of your questions about COSC. I have not duplicated (came close though) and I have taken a lot of tests ;). You will find Excelsior and COSC to be cheaper than TESC and if you do it right, COSC cheaper than Excelsior. That figure for COSC is about right if you are including graduation fees.

And yes, the sample plan on bain4weeks.com is still accurate for Excelsior's BS (not the Business major though - one exam changed).
