I would like to know where I should go to see past University of London, LLB and LLM exams and some answers that were given by past students? Also I would be interested in hearing from people that have taken or presently are taking the UofL LLB or LLM. What do you think of the books and study material provided by the school? Dose anybody know of any tutoring services or support groups in the Toronto area for people studying law at University of London by distance learning? Thanks, Bo
Past questions are sent to you when you register. They look a LOT like standard American law school type examination questions though I understand that the examiners look for citations. Search this board for links to past answers; I seem to recall someone posting a link at one point. The materials seem excellent but I have yet to take my first set of exam papers.
Hey Bo! For past LL.B. exams, try: http://www.library.qmul.ac.uk/exams/llb.htm For past LL.M. exams, try: http://193.62.18.223/dbtw-wpd/textbase/llmexamq.htm For D/L tutorial services, try: http://www.spr-law.com/ or http://www.lawtutorsonline.co.uk/frames.htm Also, search for recent posts by nosborne48 and novemberdude. Regards,
I have started the LLB and passed my first set of exams in Jine 2003. I used Law Tutors Online for study notes and purchased undergraduate exam prep texts from Cavendish Publishers and the Old Bailey Publishers. The Uni of London does not offer any tutorial support but does provide some texts and study guides when you enrol. The examiners also look for the student to be informed of Royal Commissions that may have been held on various topics. You generally find these in the exam preps. The exam preps show prepared answers to questions commonly asked in UOL exams. I don't know what other law exams are like, however, I can assure you these will be challenging. I think the difficulty for a working dist ed. student is the Uni of London requirement that you sit for three exams in the same exam period. A daunting load for a family man who is also working. Best of Luck
Regarding exam prep texts, can they be purchased direct from the publisher? Are the texts specific to each course? I am presently studying towards the UoL LLB, and I agree about the difficult part being required to take 3 exams. Like you I'm a family man who is working. If I could do this 1 or 2 courses at a time it would be much easier. Unlike you, I have yet to take any exams.
Thank for all you're input everyone. I would also like hear from the people that were/are studying law at UofL and find out how many hours per week you spend studying?
Thanks for that. The subject that I thought I would float through was crim law. It was my worst. My best was English Legal Systems followed by Contract. The subjects were thirty weeks in content and I was used to fifteen weeks of content. Needless to say I was up to armpits in law and looking for every shortcut I could get. I found that the notes were essential to get through. There was a touch of blind panic and questioning of my sanity! Novemberdude I would suggest you try Old Bailey Press, Cavendish (found at www.cavendishpublishing.com), and Blackstone (www.blackstonepress.com). I purchased direct from the publishers over the net. I used the prep material for specific subjects. Some of them specifically quote UOL exam questions. I am trying to gear up to go again this year. It is good to know that there are others trying as well. If I can assist with any questions please let me know. I am a long way from expert but I will try to assist. I will be into Torts, Landlaw, and Constitutional for the next round.
