    Two different universities?

There are two entities: 1) “University of Berkley” (www.uofb.com and www.berkley-u.edu) and 2) “Berkeley International University” (www.berkeleyuniversity.net/faq.html)

Can someone tell me if these universities are degree mills?

    University of Berkley
They seem very serious. I have a colleague enrolled there. They have being very helpful since the beginning. Dr Dennis Globosky assisted him in developing a program according to the workplace. Several books were recommended and reports are to be sent to the University for evaluation and discussion. His master degree was partially “tailor made” according to his needs and I can appreciate that he is getting a good instructional background.
On thing: Their website used to show the Administrative Office address, in Michigan. Now, there is no address at all! Where are they?

    Berkeley International University
They admit operating from Australia. They look degree mills to me. Can someone advise?

Feedback from students at both universities would be much appreciated.

I think both are kind of shady. I don't know much about schools from Austrailia (so I could be wrong). What sounded the mill alarm for me w/ Berkley International was the "World Association of Universities and Colleges" accreditation. Do a search on this board and I think you will find some info on this agency. They other one Univ of Berkley clearly states it doesn't have accreditation and starts a rant about the discrimination of non-accredited schools (blah blah). So, it may be legit, but if it's not accredited or equivalent then I, personally, would not pursue it.

I can't tell from their current website, but I once drove by the address in Michigan given by their old website. It was a mail forwarding address (Mail Boxes, etc. or comparable). Their current website shows a more impressive facility (?) but I can't tell where it is located for sure. There is an area code listed on one of the pages (814) that would appear to point to a location in the Erie, Pennsylvania area. The current website does point out that the school originally started in Berkley, Michigan - a Detroit suburb.

I'm not the brightest on topics such as this, but would you enroll in a school that doesn't even list their address on their website? They say that you may already have a degree but not know it. Strange indeed.....

One more detail, the State of Michigan maintains a list of schools that are not acceptable by the Department of Civil Services for meeting educational requirements. The list includes two schools:

"University of Berkeley (not to be confused with the University of California, Berkeley)
University of Berkley - Southfield, Michigan"

"This is a listing of colleges and universities which are not currently accredited by an accrediting body of the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Degrees from these institutions will not be accepted by the Department of Civil Service as satisfying any educational requirements indicated on job specifications."

    http://www.michigan.gov/documents/Non-accreditedSchools_78090_7.pdf

If I were you, I'd draw my own conclusions.

    Regards - Andy

This is a timely issue. I have met some individuals contemplating enrolling at the University of Berkeley (UoB) with my caution. The UoB seems to advertise a lot in certain military newspapers. The most disturbing thing however, is Touro University International web site which listed an individual as an advisor for the PhD program in Business Administration with a degree from the University of Berkeley:

"Terry Jackson, Doctoral Faculty Mentor - Business Administration
B.S. Computer Science, American National University
M.S. Quality Circles, American National University
Ph.D. Task Analysis and Modularization, University of Berkeley"

I went to UoB’ web site and I found these statements among others:

“The University of Berkley is not accredited by one of the seven regional accrediting agencies recognized by the United States Department of Education. Furthermore, the University is not accredited by any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department or Secretary of Education. We are proud of this and celebrate our subsequent UNIQUE freedom, independence, creativity and non-traditional status, which allows us increased academic flexibility. Being loyal and true Americans, we feel it our duty to defend, support and encourage the inalienable rights we enjoy in this Great Land. All too often we find that the pursuit of truth, liberty and justice may be hindered by self-serving unconscionable laws. In an attempt to improve the quality of life for all, we at the University of Berkley have set before us the task and goal of attempting to change the long accepted academic "social order" into something more closely resembling reality. It is time to STOP discriminating against schools simply because they don't "fit the norm" or have a football stadium or possess millions of dollars in assets.”

Since I am not an expert on accreditation, I am wondering if Touro has been had. Based on the public statements on the UoB web site, they may not be accredited and to have one of their alumni mentoring students at an accredited school is disturbing. Unless there is another (accredited) University of Berkeley somewhere else, the one on the internet is not accredited in their own words.

If indeed the school is unaccredited, I wonder how people repeatedly get into areas they know they do not belong with unaccredited diplomas. This is getting serious.

Quoting a line from their site:

This alone should raise some red flags... I have never heard of a university that charges money for awarding an honorary degree... Suppose you are a Degree School and award an honorary degree to Luciano Pavarotti for his contribution to opera or music in general, are you really going to say that "Well Mr. Pavarotti, we'd be happy if you'd pay the cost of getting this degree made especially for you" ??

On second thought, this honorary degree might only be for people who "contribute" to UofB... hmmm makes me wonder  :p

It says here that Rudy Giuliani had been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in April 2002 from University of Berkley.

I hope he didn't have to pay them money for the honorary degree :D That would just be cruel at their part...

What??!! Did noone notice this? Berkeley International claims they have a cooperation with the nationally accredited (ACICS) Lincoln University.

    http://www.berkeleyuniversity.net/lincoln.html

So, a "university" located in Austrailia, that cannot enroll Austrailian students, has a cooperation with an accredited American university??? What's next? Breyer State University, located in Idaho and cannot enroll Idaho students, forms a cooperative with, say, Boise State?

    BAH-HUMBUG!
