    Hi everyone:

I was wondering if there has been any more discussion about the possibility of Touro University International being accredited by AACSB. Is there a possibility? Thanks.

The only thing I can say is that if you go to the AACSB's website and search for "touro", no results are returned. They only have a list of currently accredited members and not one of "prospective members".

I'm sure that perhaps someone on here knows more than I do about this.

I couldn't find them anywhere on the site, not even as trying to get accreditation. They must first be members before seeking accreditation (minimum 3 years), and they are not members. last year I e-mailed AACSB about them, and they could not make any comments, only to say their offical status (which is on the website).

I hope they do and start to break the stigma of distance education.

    Nova Southeastern

At my last visit to Nova Southeastern, I observed renewed interest by NSU on the subject of AACSB. With their new accreditation standards there is a chance that NSU may pursue AACSB at some point. The problem they had in the past was AACSB's insistence on 50% full-time faculty. AACSB now looks for "participating" faculty (be they full/part-time, tenured or not). This concept, which calls for faculty participation in governance and non-teaching duties, may permit DL schools such as NSU or Touro to achieve AACSB accreditation. This concept may, however, be quite a stretch for the for-profit sector to accept.

I've been in the Touro University International Ph.D. BA program for two years and given what I've seen so far, I'm certain that the program will one day achieve AACSB accreditation. I have no idea when, but they are making all the right moves...

Are any of the DL programs AACSB accredited?

Hi. I don't know of any non-resident programs that have formally attempted it yet.

There are several, but all require a visit (at least once a year to several times a year).

I believe there are AACSB schools out there that offer DL MBA's without a visit...U of Colorado, Colorado Springs (various concentrations), Florida Atlantic University (accounting concentration) and UMASS come to mind.

There are about 30 (at least) that have the MBA, no visits, etc. While the doctoral level, they all requrie some residency.

Yes. Many AACSB offer MBA at a distance

The answer is yes but most of them require at least one visit to their campus. Click here to see a list of AACSB business schools that offer DL MBA.

    Are they serious about it?

Nobody really knows whether TouroU is serious about seeking AACSB accreditation. After two years of speculation, TouroU officials are yet to make their first move towards AACSB accreditation. Touro officials have stated in the past that they will pursue AACSB accreditation after graduating their first set of students. TouroU has been graduating students for three years and nothing has happened! Are they serious? I don't know but I don’t hope that it will happen any time soon.

Ike - Do you think they will be the first pure online school to go for AACSB?

Again, there are no non-resident DL PhD BA programs that have attempted AACSB-accreditation... Are there?

I didn't think AACSB accredited any doctoral-level programs at all. Is that correct?

Yes, mine is AACSB - Grenoble. Henley is another (U.K.), Case Western, though they requrie a visit every 4-5 weeks for 3 years). There arae two or three others that I found when I was looking - all recommendations of the board, it you do a search they are floating in the archives somewhere....... :p

They do not accredit programs at all - they accredit departments of a school. So if the business department at ABC university is AACSB accredited, all of the degrees awarded out of that department are accredited.

I am unsure, but when I visited the AACSB International website, it listed newly accredited and those that extended their accreditation by undergrad, masters and doctoral. If I remember correctly, AACSB accredits by the curriculum taught and the number of full-time Professors/Instructors with terminal degrees, and of course after the school pays the required fees. Anyway, for those that want to take a look, go to www.aacsb.edu and look under highlights on that page.
