Charter Oak State College looks like a nice program. Does anyone on the board have first hand knowledge about COSC? How does the experience assessment program work? Would it make sense to higher a consultant to help prepare the assessment? Thanks in advance for suggestions
COSC is a great school. The staff is very helpful. I was able to complete the degree through CLEP and DANTES exams. I felt it would take longer to show credits through any other method compared to testing out.
I first considered doing the credit by experience route - but COSC will tell you that if there is a course you can take via exam that covers it - you are supposed to just take the exam instead. I found it much easier just to take the exams. If you know it - then they are a piece of cake. Doing the credit by experience route is a HUGE undertaking. You really need to prove yourself. I took a lot of exams and passed them all. Just study for 10 - 15 hours per exam and you should be more than fine. COSC is awesome by the way - price is more than reasonable and a great staff.
I'm currently in the transcript evaluation stage with COSC. I have found them to be great to work with so far. The admissions counsellor I have been dealing with has spent a great deal of time with me, even before I paid the 175.00 for the evaluation. We have spoken on the phone 3 or 4 times and if I find a question in the student handbook and email her, I usually have an email response by the next day at the latest. Neither TESC or Excelsior would take any time to talk to me unless I paid their initial fees. COSC was helpful from the first phone call before I paid a penny. I only regret that I will be passed off from this counsellor once I enroll and start working on the credit requirements. I hope the next person I get is as good as the one I'm dealing with now. I really recommend them over the other two solely from the standpoint of help I received before paying any money. Best wishes.
