Hi all! I'm currently taking a class at Foothill college and saw that they have a partnership with Franklin University where you can earn a BS in Computer Science online. I checked Bear's list but could not find Franklin University. I also checked abet.org and could not find a Computer Science program from Franklin University.

I went to Barnes & Nobles and found a Barrons book which listed them as having NCACS accreditation. My question is, is Franklin University legit? Is it worth paying twice what I currently pay for San Francisco State? Thanks in advance.

If you mean the Franklin University based in Columbus, Ohio, it is entirely legitimate, NCA accredited, associated with the Army's DL program, etc. Original name: YMCA School of Commerce.

I graduated from Franklin with a BS in operations research in 1975. Its the second largest university in Columbus with over 8000 students - good experience - offered both evening and Sat/Sun classes back then.

Thanks for your responses! Should I be worried that their CS program is not listed with abet.org?

Thanks for pointing that out, I was wondering however, would I be able to pursue a Master's degree later on with that degree at a college of my choice? I guess I'd have to ask that college.

Why not? It seems to have the same curriculum as a lot of other computer science majors. I don't think you would have any problem going to an MSCS program with a BSCS from franklin. As far as ABET accreditation goes, I don't think it is necessarily a big deal to not have an ABET CS degree (there are a lot that are not).

Of course, Franklin is not Harvard, Purdue, et. al. Not having ABET accreditation could be inhibit graduates in some situations, regardless of the quality of the school. How many sitautions I'm not sure anyone knows.
