    hI ALL,
How respectable is an institution that 's been accredited by International council for open and distance education?
Is it comparable to regionally accredited in the US or any other countries recognised government accreditation?

    Thanks

    Not the same.

The ICDE acknowledgement is not the same.

Be careful that the institution is not just a member of the ICDE, because "membership" is not an endorsement or acknowledgement.

    Hi Paul,
Thanks for the reply.could you be more specific why it is not the same?does it mean the diploma mill institution is also eligible to join?

    Thanks
    Eric

Membership in the ICDE is not a guarantee of academic quality, anymore than membership in AAA is an endorsement of one's driving ability.

    My take..

The United Nations (UNESCO) is the acknowledging body of the ICDE. My interpretation of the ICDE accreditation is that it will not be considered equal because the United States does not always honor the United Nations policies.

The example that I'm thinking of would be the Iraq War. The United Nations forbid the evasion of Iraq but the United States went in anyway. Why should education be any different?

If the US Department of Education or CHEA acknowledges the ICDE accreditation then it will be considered honorable.
