I recently discovered that I have all the requirements to become a certified teacher in NY, with the exception of 12 education credits. My problem is that the requirements to become certified are changing as of Feb. 1, 2004 and after that I will no longer qualify. I have registered for 2 CLEP exams (Intro to Educational Psych and Human Development) and 1 Excelsior exam (Literacy Instruction in the Elementary School). Is anyone aware of any other options that I might explore to get fast education credits? Also, if anyone has any advice for preparation for the CLEP and Excelsior exams that I am taking, I would greatly appreciate it.
Physical Education and Sport Sciences/Credit by Exam: http://www.ohiou.edu/independent/list2.htm#pess N.B. OU credits are Quarter hour credits Misc. Education / Courses: http://ce.byu.edu/is/site/catalog/select.dhtm?type=univ N.B. Some education courses may assume/require that you have access to a class (are a teacher/teacher's aid/etc.) Good luck!
LOCAL COLLEGES Good Morning, Check the local colleges in your area and see if they will allow you to take end of semester testing. Hopefully, someone will follow up this post with options of this nature. Charge on. Hille
US Fire Academy Hello, Try the course Q118 at the US Fire Academy site. This can be printed and taken within the next 24 hours for one credit. Hille
I think where you may run into trouble is that the clep credits would be psychology not education. From what you wrote I would guess the 12 credits must be transcribed as ED credits. Is there a way to confirm this with NY State? Good luck in obtaining your goal.
Re: Re: Please help me get fast education credits I spoke to BOCES (Board Of Cooperative Educational Services) and they told me that those CLEP exams were acceptable. I will double check with the NYS Department of Education, but BOCES is supposed to know. I would like other options for education credits besides the exams in case I fail one of them or some unforseen problem arises. I have a lot experience working as a teacher assistant, it would be a shame to not get certified because of a few education credits. Thanks to everyone for all the responses I really appreciate any help that I can get with this.
Here are 7 courses you can take through UCSD Extension (taught by Virtual Education Software, Inc.): http://www.extension.ucsd.edu/StudyAreas/index.cfm?vAction=saCourses&vStudyAreaID=6 Scroll down to where it says "Distance Learning". Again, the units are quarter-hours. For the Excelsior exam, get Reading Instruction in the Elementary School by Jack Rudman. http://www3.addall.com/New/compare.cgi?isbn=0837354250 It will arrive faster from http://www.barnesandnoble.com than from anywhere else. Of course, you also have to read all the children's books in the official syllabus.
TO ALL: Greetings, I work in an army learning center computer lab in the evenings; I saw a message that may affect folks hoping to test out in CLEP exams. The CLEP folks are in the process of migrating all of their CLEP tests to computer testing format(s). The message I saw stated that from January to April of 2004 CLEP exams will not be available for servicemembers that want to take CLEP tests at military education centers. I think the testing centers that provide computer certifications are conducting the tests; I don't know what extent the colleges are affected by this change. I want to accelerate the time it would take to receive my degree, (seeking B.S. in computer studies from UMUC). I would welcome any ideas, suggestion from the audience as to how I can accomplish this. Thank you for your time. grobi43
