There's something about the official Excelsior transcript that, I believe, has not been mentioned here.

Many grouse about the the fact that of all exam programs accepted for credt, CLEP is the only one that Excelsior does not grant for at anything other than introductory level credt (foriegn language excepted).

But on the official transcript, everything on it displays its credit level (DANTES have those odd SF or SE XYZ designations that appear not to correspond to anything but their world) - but not CLEP. Only there is there a big fat blank in that column!

    Any reactions to this fact?
Does this distree or sooth anyone?

I have not seen an Excelsior transcript ever. What does the credit level means ? does it mean Upper level or lower level credits ? and are you saying that CLEP exams are shown on the transcript without a level ?

    I believe you've got it!

The OFFICIAL Excelsior transcript looks good. It's printed on purple edged, light purple watermark paper, with CAPITAL typewriter style print against copy resistant paper with the seal of the college in the center background. The College is ID'd at the top ("Excelsior [globe symbol] College"/ "(known as Regents College until December 31, 2000)"/ "Member of The University of the State of New York)" then address and phone); then the student is identified (plus DOB, SS#, degree, program, major, and conferral date, etc).

THEN the 'script begins, listing basically, in order, what you see in your updates (sans distribution requirements and GPA details). Reading from the top, term, dept (e.g., HIST, PHYS), course number, decriptive title, "SEM HRS," then grade.

But when it comes to CLEP exams, just date, descritive title, sem hrs and grade are listed: department and course number are neither listed nor inserted. Instead of college or university heading up the CLEP section, you read "CLEP SUBJECT EXAMINATION", etc. Each exam title has the test score next to it as per usual "(67)". Credit level is not indicated. This ought to mollify those taking umbrage at their miserly acceptance of these credits, compared with the competition.

I needed this in order to make proper copies for grad school recommenders. Plus, I wanted to read the two sided "INFORMATION" letter that grad school committees will read about the College, explaining the history, accreditation, student population served (e.g., adults at a distance, about "28 percent of our enrolled students self-identify as members of groups historically underrepresented in higher education," and alumni ("more than 100,000 graduates worldwide"), faculty, and EC exams. It closes with the toll free contact number.

If you're curious, you ought to get yourself a copy: you'll feel good if not proud!

When did you graduate? The last ttranscript I got a few years ago was a form with typed and handwritten text.
Anyway it sounds like we Excelsior/USNY alumni now get our $10 dollars worth.
However very recently Excelsior took twice as long (4 weeks) to deliver transcripts than CSUDH ($4) and ERAU ($5) even though my bank statement shows Excelsior was the first to cash my check. Hopefully this was an aberration.
