Does anyone know of schools that offer Adult Ed PhD or Doctorate completely through DL. Anyone that can offer suggestions about an Adult Ed degree, its usefulness and any good programs for this thanks!

    Ph.D Adult Education

    Greetings armywife,

This may not be the exact answer you are looking for but Walden University has a PhD in Adult Education Leadership. The catalog discribes the program and its courses fairly well and might be of interest to you.

    Hope this will help you.

NOVA SOutheastern has an Ed.D. in adult and higher education that is mostly by distance.

Nebraska-Lincoln. It may be geared more towards educational administration.

    Hi armywife,

I've just started my PhD in Adult Ed with Capella. I almost went with Walden, but liked the course offerings much better at Capella -- much more in depth. Also, the residency requirements for Capella (1 week each year for three years) were better, to me, than Walden (3 weeks one year, 2 weeks another, or many small weekend and/or 4 day sessions).

    Hope this info helps!

    National-Louis

Check out National-Louis U. in Chicago, the former National College of Education. It's one of the best schools in the US for Adult Ed if you are interested in the field as left-of-centre social activism rather than technocracy or corporate human resources (which they hate). A cohort-based program, and I believe they are even experimenting now with collaborative dissertations, an intriguing concept which flies in the face of the Ph.D. or D.Ed. as we know it.

It's basically a DL program for working adults, but you fly to Chicago periodically for weekend intensives. Respected faculty, including Stephen Brookfield as a visiting prof. (www.nl.edu)

Peter (finishing up my master's there, and pretty pleased with the program)
