Australian probe: more than just Greenwich now

    I find it intriguing that the can o' Vegemite opened in Australia with the investigation of Greenwich University has expanded to include the new Melbourne University Private, into which more than $250 million was poured, with negligible results (http://www.theage.com.au/news/2001/03/23/FFX0LGRBLKC.html).

    The article reports that Education Minister David Kemp - who in 1998 praised MUP for "taking the initiative in creating collaboration between public and private to advance the Australian education system" - yesterday declined comment.

    This is not specifically a distance learning issue, but a clear reminder of what is possible when the profit-making philosophy is brought to the higher education marketplace.
