    Hi:

    Just wondering if anybody has information on the BU MCJ degree.

    Including the how you liked the program, the type of degree, is it an MS or an MCJ, and any other info you think is important.

    Thanks

    I looked into attending BU for my Master's, before they offered a totally online program. I've also looked into the online program out of curiousity (I believe it is a M.S. in CJ). My take;

    Pros: Name recognition, fairly prestigious school, good faculty credentials, accelerated course schedule.

    Cons: Very pricey, BU is not a player in the CJ field (they only offer the degree through Metropolitan College, their Continuing Education branch), BU has contracted with a private company out of Florida to administer the program.

    Bottom line, IMO, there are better values out there.

    I listed a fairly comprehensive listing of graduate CJ DL programs in this thread.

    I thought I better clarify my "BU is not a player in the CJ field" statement....

    Boston University is a great school, with an impeccable pedigree. But.....they don't have a college/school of Criminal Justice, and they only offer the Master's in CJ through their Metropolitan College, which is their CE branch.

    AFAIK, BU does not engage in active research in CJ, nor are they recognized as a great CJ school, just a great school in general. In terms of prestige in the CJ world, Michigan State & Florida State, for two examples, would blow them away.

    CJ Degree

    You should look into the Indiana State University program.
    It has a well known CJ program because of the the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana. Timothy M. Oklahoma bomber put to death there.

    Anyway, Indiana State University has the degree completely at a distance and out of state students are welcome. They are good on tuition price also.
